It all started in December 2007. Juva, Dreams 2.5, & Texas, better known as the 'Sci-fi Rap & Rave' group Sub-Universe was formed like a deep space nebula. It was clear from the start that the trio shared similar musical backgrounds and influences, and after writing music together for a whole year, the 'Way To Nang EP' was ready to be unleashed to the public. It wasn't long before Sub-Universe found themselves with an underground following, demanding more and more space age bass-lines and galactic rhymes from the group.
Dreams 2.5 heads up the group on vocals and production. On stage, the cool 'n' calm is mixed with bursts of electric stances and soulful brooding.
Juva (pron. Joova) is the vocal firework. Frantic prose and hypeman energy make him an explosive performer and a lyrical live-wire.
Texas stands tall and strong. He delivers his bars with sharp clarity, and spits venomous wisdom to your core.
April 2009 saw the release of the 'Computer Game EP' and the addition of a new member, Understudy. As the demand for Sub-Universe increased across the country, it was clear a DJ was needed to complete the live act. Having made a name for himself as one of Bristol's best drum & bass DJs and also a vibrant new producer, the group asked Understudy to fulfill the role as the Sub-U DJ, which he gladly accepted.
2009 also bought about the chance for Sub-Universe to play at Glastonbury festival. After winning a slot in the Q Magazine Emerging Talent Finals, Sub-Universe were selected to play in the infamous Dance Village, as well as play on the Queen's Head stage as a reward for reaching the finals. It wasn't long after these performances, that Sub-Universe were heard on Radio 1, with plays from Huw Stephens & Kissy Sell Out.
Having just finished the 'Computer Game' music video, it's clear that Sub-Universe are serious and with good reason. Their catchy, imaginative beats and rhymes will definitely have you singing in the shower but it's fair to say, only God knows what the future holds.
