In a world of frighteningly rapid change, some things never go out of style. In a time when we're all so savvy with the newest electronic gadget and so at ease with music being reduced to a computer science problem to be solved, some things are just plainly good. S.T.B.A.'s brand of punk and ska rowdiness is just such a thing—a welcome ice-cold longneck in a world of designer martinis.
St. Thomas Boys Academy is a veteran ska/punk band from Detroit, MI that has carved an undeniable niche into the local seen largely due to their intense and highly energetic live shows. Originally formed in 2000, STBA has crafted a mature sound that has proven to be able to reach a wide variety of age groups and fans of multiple musical genres. STBA’s unique combination of aggressive punk rock guitar tones, melodic/hardcore vocals, and catchy horn lines has opened the door for performing with some of the most widely recognized touring punk bands including Streetlight Manifesto, The Suicide Machines, The Toasters, Big D and the Kids Table, Mustard Plug, and Catch 22. Over the past nine years, STBA has extensively toured the mid western US, using these experiences to continuously hone their unique sound and appease the masses with quality musicianship and a professional demeanor. The release of their debut CD “Welcome to the Academy” received positive reviews in both the The Metro Times and Real Detroit Weekly, and is in current rotation at most college and high school radio stations across Michigan. At present, STBA remains to be a constant staple throughout Detroit and the accompanying metro area and is currently in the process of returning to the studio to record a follow up to their widely recognized debut release.
A mainstay on the Detroit punk scene for close to a decade. The St. Thomas Boys Academy cranks out an utterly unaffected blend of punk, ska, hardcore and rock n’ roll.

“If you thought that skacore died with Operation Ivy, fear not, my checkered-belted friend! These Eastside lads carry on the tradition of Op Ivy, Suicide Machines and Mad Caddies, but also bring in some of the heavier elements of Fat Wreck-era Rise Against.”
-Real Detroit Weekly

“The boys in the Academy teach Punk Rock 101 with a minor in Advanced Fun. Raw guitars and vocals are punctuated with a blast of horn action, and the furious rhythm will soon have you dancing on your desk. S.T.B.A.'s new EP is a great introduction to the course, but if you really want to get down on the playground, don't miss the band's live performances, 'cause that's where the real fun is. “
