At some point in their life, everyone wants to be a rock star; but rarely do they ever get the chance. Few rarely get to the pinnacle before it is lost by a few careless mistakes. This is where Cleveland based StraightRazor Entertainment comes in.
StraightRazor Entertainment is the brainchild of long-time heavy-hitters in the Cleveland music scene; Jim LaMarca, bassist for Cleveland based metal band, Chimaira, Ben Schigel, owner of Spider Studios and Trent Weller, touring manager for many International music acts. Bringing together over 30 combined years in the industry, their goal is to guide musicians through the process of surviving and thriving in the tumultuous waters of the music industry.
Cutting their teeth in the Cleveland music scene since 1995, LaMarca and Schigel began their journey in the industry while members of rival high school bands in Strongsville, Ohio. When Schigel started his first recording studio in 1995, he worked with LaMarca and other local musicians who would eventually comprise Chimaira. Also working his way through the music scene at the same time, Cleveland native Weller met LaMarca during Chimaira's appearance on the 2003 Ozzfest Tour.
While Schigel worked in his studio, he also gained fame and a record contract with his own band, Switched. During Switched's run on Ozzfest, Schigel met Weller who was touring with another act. While both bands clawed their way through the metal world, Weller continued his journey through the business side of the industry. Schigel, LaMarca and Weller simultaneously learned the ins and outs of the music industry and made many valuable connections on their way which would help them when they came together to form StraightRazor Entertainment.
While recording with Chimaira for their 2003 Roadrunner Records release, The Impossibility of Reason, LaMarca discovered a local rap artist who first got him in to the idea of helping local artists with promotion and marketing. Schigel continued to develop his producing skills after the break-up of Switched. Meanwhile, Weller continued his career working with top name entertainment companies such as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Concrete Marketing and the management company, The Firm (Spivak/Sobal Entertainment), an industry powerhouse.
Eventually coming together with LaMarca overseeing the marketing side, Schigel to head up the studio side and Weller to handle touring, marketing and live appearances, StraightRazor Entertainment officially formed in late 2007.
While the musical background of StraightRazor Entertainment is deeply rooted in the metal and rock scene, they are not focusing only on one genre of music. Their current roster includes hip-hop, R&B, rock, metal and hardcore acts. Having their eyes and ears open and always looking for new artists to bring on board is a driving factor for StraightRazor Entertainment.
Planning to make their full-scale debut in late 2008, the minds behind StraightRazor Entertainment are ready and looking for any band or entertainer that has the desire and drive to make it in the music industry.
