BLACK WEEDS
The Black Weeds were born in the backroom of Bar122, a lowrent drinkingden on the south side of Stockholm in 2009. You see its located just around the corner from Stevie’s guitarshop and he wanted a local gig that was low profile so he could check some new musicians out, try some new things out and play the old stuff too. This is the lineup that grew out of that, and after a first tour in Spain in the spring of 2010 the band was a fact.
The people Stevie(Johnny Thunders Oddball,s Hanoi Rocks, Diamond Dogs) found was none other then Anders “Boba Lee Fett”” Lindstrom(Hellacopters, Diamond Dogs), Robert Eriksson (Hellacopters, Tramp), Martin Tronsson(Diamond Dogs, Staffan Hellstand, Persons Pack) and West African Hoodoo man Brother Bai Jack.
Stevie allways had a great love of the more swamp-hoodoo-groove-DrJohn kinda thing, and with his Slideguitar/Faces/70's guitarhero thang mixed with Brother Bai Jack on some real down home hoodoo percussion, Martin Tronsson’s badass bottomend bass playing and the ever solid drummer Robert Eriksson and Boba Lee Fett at his side Black Weeds are rockin’ like crazy.
Live the band performs songs from both Stevie’s "Don't shoot the messenger" album released in 2007 and from the upcoming debut album from Black Weeds that will be out late spring 2011, a album that will be released as a book, Rock n Roll tales From A Crooked Highway, with thirteen short stories from yes, you guessed it, Stevie’s crooked highway.
The word from Stevie is that he promise to pull a surprise out of the hat every night on the road, and that’s just what to expect from the Prince of Desperado’s.
BLACK WEEDS PHILOSOPHY:
When ever the ear hears the word Weeds, all the mind may think of is spliff. Weeds are found everywhere in this global hood of our's(the whole world). Weeds are the signs of growth, wherever growth takes place the weeds are standing by want it or not cause they always revive whenever you think you eliminate them and always resists in order to exist. The term weeds in swedish is known as ogräs, but in the hoodoo term it means organical growth and has nothing to do with spliff. This was the explanation i gave to the wife of our great friend who for many years has had our dear brother Jan Hallquisth (halkan) , Stevie Klasson and crew to perform on a private party they organise every summer. Summer 2010 was the first time they hired Stevie and the Black Weeds as the house band of the party. I remember her telling me how she wondered about how their invitees would react when they think the name of the band means spliff and would wonder what kind of a party its gonna be cause her mind was thinking about spliff and thought others may be thinking the same but she witnessed something superb and extra ordinary when the cool guys from the hood stepped in.
The world is the global hood for all mankind, the hood for the living and the non living (the natural and the superficial)being one of the reasons that made the Black Weeds chose the hoodoo as an image and concept for consiouseness and togetherness for the common good(i.e to treat someone the same way you need to be treated, and to do something good in the hood).
Pioneered by the legendary Stevie Klasson together with well known professional and dedicated musicians has brought to its audience a new face lift to rock'n roll termed as the hoodoo rock being a fusion of the normal and the abnormal which is the reason that makes them outstanding in any live performance. their music can be defined as a harmonic mechanism that bridges the gaps between all ages and races and all positive forces that can share moments that brings happiness and togetherness through music and in a purified environment based on peace, love and respect for all mankind despite their colour or creed, and mutual hoodoo understanding.
Peace and love from the hood to yours.
/Brother Bai Jack
