STEREO MARACANÃ
is a group of four musicians from Rio de Janeiro who have found a way of expressing their dreams and dissatisfaction with the power structures of an excluding society through music. Stereo Maracanã’s goal is to integrate the medium they represent into society, combining popular culture from hip-hop to funk and Capoeira with a sophisticated electronic multi-layered and solid groove. They believe that through their musical work and a repertoire committed to fighting racial prejudice they can inspire their listeners to appreciate the day-to-day realities of people who are constantly struggling for the basic rights of food, work, decent housing, health and leisure. Stereo Maracanã describe themselves as a Rio de Janeiro rap group committed to musical experimentation. Their point of departure is combining drum machines with rills of hip-hop grooves, lots of percussion (playing mainly instruments used in the brazilian fighting dance “Capoeira”, like the Berimbau and the Atabaque) and poetry. The Stereo Maracanã partnership with the Maianga Discos label resulted in the release of the group's first CD - Combatente. Recently, their song “Freestyle Love” was included in several compilations , like Mr Bongo’s “Brazilian Beats 5” , Wagram's french compliation "Brazilectro-Latin Flavoured Club Tubes", and the “Radio latina Brésil” compliation.The banda toured Europe in 2007 and 2008, performing at Popkomm festival in Berlin; The Brazilian cinema festival in Paris; the Guanabara , in London; The Komedia, in Brighton(UK). In Brazil, Stereo Maracanã performed in big festivals like Abril Pro Rock( In Recife-Pernambuco) and Humaitá pra Peixe(Rio de Janeiro), and collaborated with several artists like the carioca funk queen Fernanda Abreu and Mr Catra. The band is now producing their second album, entitled "Mentalidade Safari", mixing african rhythms with capoeira and hip hop, making a blend that provides the tenacity of organized soccer fans, joyously indignant, asking life for a better score.

está na ativa desde o ano de 2002, quando lançou seu disco de estréia, “Combatente”, que teve como destaque as performances ao vivo em comunidades do Rio de Janeiro em um ônibus-palco construído pela banda. A sonoridade do grupo, investindo em uma mistura de capoeira com hip hop e batidas eletrônicas agradou tanto no Brasil quanto no exterior. Músicas do Stereo Maracanã foram selecionadas para diversas compilações sobre música brasileira, a mais famosa delas sendo o hit “Freestyle love”, que entrou na seleção do CD “Brazilian Beats 5”, do selo inglês Mr Bongo, abrindo as portas da Europa para os cariocas do STM, que participou dos mais importantes festivais do Brasil ( Abril Pro Rock e Demo Sul, entre outros) e em 2007 foi convidado para se apresentar na Popkomm em Berlim, na Alemanha. Nesse mesmo ano a banda se apresentou no festival de cinema brasileiro em Paris e Bruxelas. A banda se apresentou nos festivais Riocenacontemporânea
E Humaitá pra Peixe em 2009, e em março de 2010 foi convidada para participar do 5º Fórum Urbano Mundial, no Rio de Janeiro, quando se apresentou ao vivo ao lado de artistas como Lam Tungwar, do Sudão. Atualmente, a banda se concentra nas gravações do seu próximo CD, “Mentalidade Safári”.
