STEEV RICHTER

With a new album in the works, collaborations with some of the top artists in the business and a new (old) band, Steev Richter stands poised to stage his own personal sort of revolution in the world of music.

"I feel like after all these years of working and learning the craft of songwriting, I'm finally in a place that i want to be with it for the very first time and I believe that all of the different (and I mean very different) projects that I've been working on reflect that." said Richter. "I've been doing that singer/songwriter on the fringe thing for long enough. I love the piano stuff, but it's time to branch out and try some other things; maybe a little bit of everything. Dance, Hip-Hop, Pop or Rock, i'll give anything a shot. At the end of the day I'm still gonna come back to my own thing, but this makes the rest of the day a lot more fun."

Steev Richter first appeared on the music radar in the mid-nineties as the frontman of the New York-based band Jameson Steinway. In a music scene saturated with "grunge", the band forged a live sound that fused blues riffs, pop hooks, and piano leads with smooth vocals and layered harmonies. After five years and modest success the band broke up, and Steev ventured out into a solo career. For the past six years he has enjoyed a very slow rise from obscurity with four solo albums (including the highly acclaimed '06 release "Only Always"), countless packed houses and sold-out shows, and an ever growing fanbase across the country. Known musically for the intensity, the passion, and the honesty that he brings to his live shows, Steev seems to share an intimate bond with his audience that keeps them coming back.

Until recently, Richter's approach to his career and his music has been strictly grass roots. His music has travelled across the world by word of mouth between fans with no help from professional management, labels or distribution companies. However, after signing a new management deal with Fifth Ave. Productions in 2008, he is starting to make a name for himself among the music industry elite. Steev has been playing in a newly formed incarnation of his first band, Jameson Steinway, as well as continuing to pursue his solo efforts, all the while establishing himself as a professional and versatile freelance pianist and songwriter. He has collaborated on tracks for various hip-hop, dance and pop artists (ranging anywhere from Jay-Z to Marc Anthony) and has worked closely with producers Develop (Lil' Wayne and Juelz Santana) and Spice (Usher and Rell) in an effort to stretch his songwriting abilities as well as to fund his personal projects.

The new album, which is slated to begin production in September of '08, isn't something that Steev or his management are commenting on other than to say that it is an "audiobiographical concept album". It remains to be seen whether he will return to his piano-based singer/songwriter roots, or if all of these ventures into other genres will find their way into this new project. As usual, Steev is content to keep us all guessing. In the meantime, I'm going to throw on "Only Always" and enjoy the journey thus far.
