A brief liaison with a major record label; A-list celebrity friends; Spykatcha still remains devoted to his first love and manages to target himself as inspiration for thousands.
Another London-born character hailing from the urban and dance music scene, at first glance Spykatcha doesn’t sound like anything more than DJ-made-good. In reality, Shawn John has been involved in the music business for 15 years, supporting and developing the pirate radio music scene and club events in the 1990’s, into becoming an aspiring and influential Broadcaster.
This early dedication brought with it the luxury of working with many major artists such as Rupee, Kelis, Alison Hinds, Sean Paul, Kevin Lyttle, Wayne Wonder, Sean Paul, Alicia Keys and Craig David.
On a personal level this gave Spy the opportunity to relocate from his home, spurring his driving force North as Radio City 96.7 (largest commercial station in the UK outside London), offered him the chance to host one of the biggest commercial urban shows in the North of England, called the ‘Hotspot’.
As well as rubbing shoulders with the crème de la crème of the music scene, Spykatcha has been massively effective in his community. He has presented many showcases and workshops for local communities, including cultural events & festivals.
As one of the UKs leading and established broadcasters, his diverse abilities were again tested in a series of theatre productions, “By The Rivers” & “Misunderstood”(Liverpool & Manchester two years running) were productions that really allowed Spykatcha to further prove his acting skills, and in return got him rave reviews in the local press.
With his continuous hard work and dedication, it is no wonder that he is starting to receive recognition for his work. Spy has been respectfully listed in the Top 100 of the most influential figures in Merseyside in recent years running and is the focus for major mobile phone company Siemen’s, after he was named a style icon for the city.
Spykatcha has worked on various projects and gigs worldwide, as a Journalist, Tutor and DJ, including Cyprus, Dubai, Russia & Germany.
Things looks exceptionally promising from the man who picked up the ‘Merseyside Achievement Award 2005’ for an outstanding contribution to Media throughout Liverpool and Merseyside in October 2005.
Spykatcha tends to be booked for various gigs from Commercial R&B, to Soca, Dancehall, Hip Hop, to Funk & Soulful House. His FREE Mix tapes also reflect his multi-faceted skills, they are posted up regularly online and has a high volume of downloads from his devout supporters around the world.
Spy currently has residencies in Camel Club, Liverpool every weekend. He works as a presenter/guide on the official tours for Liverpool Football Club whenever possible, as he is a crazy football fan!
Not only that but he is currently co-producing a US & UK collaborated movie called ‘Proud Daddy’, and look out for Spy’s appearance in the new football movie ‘ Fifteen Minutes That Shook The World’, starring Liverpool Football legends, Steve Gerrard & Jamie Carragher.
