hello everyone and thanks for your interest in our festival.this is however 'just' the myspace version with a brief info below; if you want to know what we're REALLY all about just go to the 'real' springfestival website.

but to give you an overview here goes:

The springfestival is the biggest festival for clubculture in Austria and its neighbouring countries.

It started in 2001 as springone – festival for electronic art and music and has considerably increased since then.

In 2008, springeight took place in 14 venues all over the city with more than 250 artists playing for over 20.000 people, making it one of the most important events for DJ- and clubculture in Central Europe.

from Drum’n’Bass to Dubstep, Electro and Techno to House, Breakbeat, Hip Hop, Downtempo, Dub, Reggae and Ragga, Ambient and beyond and emphasises on live performances as well as label specials (such as Chew The Fat!, K7, Metalheadz, Ed Banger, Kitsune, Kompakt, Compost, Ninja Tune, Exit vs Integral, etc.) and exclusive performances (such as Carl Craig’s live performance during the Detroit Night in 2007 that was composed especially for the springfestival).

Core part of the springfestival is the daytime program such as the Red Bull Music Academy Sessions and soundlabs, Workshops (such as Dubplate cutting, producing, Final Scratch and the Video Production and Visuals Workshops in coop with the University for Applied Sciences), book presentations and readings (i.e. Bill Brewster), a video exhibition in the local museum for contemporary art, various symposiums etc.

Austria’s national alternative radio, FM4, moves to Graz during the festival to broadcast live from the festival centre all week to Austria and parts of Germany, Slovenia and Croatia as official festival radio.

The springfestival promotion tour (11 dates in 2008, one of them together with DJ Marky & Friends at The End/London) takes place 3 weeks before the festival reaching about 12.000 people in other parts of Austria as well as Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, Slovakia, Romania, Spain and the UK.

In August 2007, the springfestival hosted one of the major clubnights at the c/o pop festival in Cologne, Germany with an international Dubstep line up (Mala/Digital Mystikz, Loefah, Pinch, Plastician & Sgt Pokes) as well as a room in their festival centre throughout the whole event, bringing about 30 local artists to Germany.

In 2008, springeight again featured numerous outstanding performances by extraordinary artists, the biggest ever live opening concert in the open air venue Kasematten on top of the mountain Schlossberg in the centre of the city (ft The Streets, Roisin Murphy, Robyn, Roni Size Reprazent Live and Inner City Dwellers) , a video production workshop that ran six months and exhibition of the videos, a video competition, workshops and various musical debuts, premieres and special performances that have been put together just for this event.

SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS AND PREMIERES OF LAST YEAR:

Audio-visual performance in public space:

Renowned video artist Mox presented a unique dialogue between architecture and sound. The music for this audio-visual performance had been composed by two award-winning pianists, Francesco Tristano and Kelvin Sholar, inspired by the minimal music of Reich and the great themes of Austrian composers like Schoenberg, Beethoven and Wagner.

This world premiere was performed on the Bix Facade of Kunsthaus Graz, the city's museum for contemporary art.

Synthesizer Exhibition:

The biggest collection of analogue synthesizers attracted more than 5000 people in four days, with many of the festival artists hanging out and playing.

The End@springeight:

The springfestival joined ranks with London superclub The End for a unique coop. For the first time, the club hosted a night at a festival outside the UK.

With a promo party at Mark and Friends in London in March, The End's night with DJ Marky & Stamina MC, Gilles Peterson,Rant DJs, Bushwacka! and Mr C was a huge success and has recently become even more special due to The End having closed their doors for good.

In 2009, springnine will once again turn the city of Graz upside down, making the festival the biggest event for clubculture, electronic music and arts in Austria and due to it's exceptional lineup a true gem amongst European festivals.

a few more things though:

*please do not send us any inquiries through myspace - use the real email address.

*please do not post things like 'thanks for the add' or similar as a comment. no need for that really.

*and please don't spam our page with flyers that have nothing to do with us or our events. we wouldn't do the same to your page either. it's just rude.

thank you!
