PHONY

Phony aka Jack Makins is a producer from Guildford and has been making drum and bass for 4 years. He was first introduced to drum and bass when he moved from Lincolnshire to Guildford to study. Whilst studying he worked part time in an off licence where he met fellow producers/djs, Lean, Bazil and Danny Power. Dj Lean and Bazil used to blare filthy tunes all through shifts when Jack was working they soon became best of friends and Phony slowly became more into drum and bass.



The tune that first made the biggest impression on Phony was "Signal" by Dj Fresh. From then he started going out to dnb nights in London at venues such as the end, fabric, clockwork, and plastic people. Rotation was also introduced (a night put together by friends Subterra Lean Bazil Network Fd) and provided local drum and bass nights with big artists such a Pendulum, Andy C, Mampi Swift, Fresh and Subfocus playing. This gave him an opportunity to get his songs played out to crowds upto 650 people and also to hear new tunes from djs playing.



Before living in Surrey, Jack grew up in Lincolnshire and was more interested in metal bands such as Slipknot, Deftones, Glassjaw and System of a Down. Whilst at school, Jack was involved in a few bands playing drums, guitar and vocals and also recieved classical singing lessons during his studying of A level music. His main band was AllBackToMine in which he was a vocalist. They recorded a six track ep called "tripping on the rocks", when Jack was aged 16, and sold copies at local gigs.



Since 2003 Jack has been studying at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford. Since being there he has achieved a diploma and higher diploma in Music Production and is currently studying a BA Hons in the subject. Whilst studying at ACM, Phony has had a synchronisation Publishing deal with one of his tracks featuring on MOTO GP 07 on the XBOX 360. Since then Phony has been concentrating on his studies and on perfecting his sound by experimenting and working with other producers. Phony works along side Lean, Bazil, Ben (sigma), Danny Power, Subterra, Birthcircuit, Adam K, Reanix, Bait Hoven and the Retrosexxxuals, Phony also ventures into other genres such as metal, indie/pop, hip hop, breakbeat, and dub step.



Phony looks forward to meeting new people, hearing new music, and hearing your views on his music.
