Chicago, a city in the middle of the map, probably most know for the Sears Tower, reputed mobsters such as Al Capone, the home of gang violence, and the Cabrini Green housing projects as seen on “Good Times”. but Chicago is also the place that 27 years ago, birthed what we in 2008 would know as the change in hip hop. Mark Byrd affectionately known as “Breezy” by his peers would be that change. He started out as young tyke in his uncle’s bedroom, wearing a kangol, a gold rope chain, and rhyming along with the L.L. Cool J “I’m Bad” album. “Since that day in my uncle’s room, I knew that I was born for this” - Mark Byrd. But it wouldn’t be until later in his life where he would really take Hip Hop seriously. After trials and tribulations, from almost losing his mother, to almost losing his freedom, he would find himself back in the frame of mind as that kid in the room. In High School, he linked up with Jason Rauls (3Rd) and Darius Howard (D-Nas) to form Whole World Emcees. They remain a team but situations have spread them out, never finishing up an album. Mark would soon go solo. As he ventured to Baltimore in 2003 to work with Major Noise Recordings, that’s where he began to hone his skills as a solo artist and “find himself in the music”. More situations led him to leave Baltimore, to return home to Chicago in 2005, to make a decision in life… be a working man, or work to be the man in Hip Hop. You see what he chose. Hooking back up with his cousin after long years to find out they had the same interest in music is what lead to what we witness… “Yo… I found the reason Jay-Z retired” - Cuzzo. Mark Byrd was then backed by “Geno” and formed Workhorse Ent. Where he would not only be an artist but an exec. But it wasn’t until he met a kid “Chi-Leak” that Mark would really do it. “Chi” introduced Mark to the GinzuCutz Muziq team, compiled of Chi-Leak, Al Austin, Jay a.k.a. Mr. Pro-Tools, Marcus McDowell, Penn the God, “Sauce”, amd Rayna. They completed a project called “Bringing Muzik Back” to unreleased, but also spawned the phenomenon Project: Fr3sh. Mark Byrd is now 1/3 of the group Project: Fr3sh as well as a solo artist. With a couple releases scheduled for this year, “The Get Fresh Show” (PF3), and the “Mark Byrd Experience” they plan on showing the world what is missing from hip hop as well as making the mark as one of the greats! “My people don’t want rap no more, they want music, and I will deliver” - Mark Byrd
