Sound of Music Recording Studios

Located in downtown Richmond, Virginia, Sound of Music Studios is one of the south's most renowned recording facilities. In our decade-long history we have played host to musicians from a broad range of styles from major label rock, to indie, emo, punk, blues, jazz, hip-hop, even gospel choirs and produced some truly exceptional music.

Sound of Music was founded in 1994 by David Lowery of Cracker/Camper Van Beethoven, John Morand, and Miguel Urbiztondo on the basic principle that music sounds better when its made in a relaxed, supportive environment. We pride ourselves not only on providing that environment, but also for the vast knowledge of our staff and our unique array of vintage and contemporary recording equipment. This philosophy is continued as new co-owner Craig Harmon joins the Sound of Music family. Whatever your needs or preferences, we can take care of you.



Were located in a spacious (10,000 sq.ft.) 3-story facility in the heart of downtown Richmond, Va within strolling distance of some of the citys best restaurants and clubs. The space comprises two studios, one for tracking and mixing, the other for overdubs, assembly, and editing - both with digital and analog capabilities. We also offer on-site accommodations for visiting bands
