The wider playing field of alternative rock has made way for SOJOURN to explore the blues, without ever playing them. Brand new tracks recorded and produced by Mandy Kane (who cut his studio teeth alongside luminaries Chris Vrenna, Joe Chiccarelli and Valgier Sigurdsson) show us that you don’t have to live in New York City to be a part of post-punk revivalism this year.

Sojourn’s latest offerings throb with rhythm and harmonized guitars, snare heavy mixes and stoic indifference. The panic-anxiety of AUTOMATIC reveals pop-rock organs whose symptoms refuse to be medicated. Helmed by guitars that could be mistaken for the Chameleons and drawing a subtle comparison to the modern Interpol. THE HUNT proves that truths can refuse to be apologetic. Sojourn’s warring retains the stealth of the ever tip-toed bison. A juxtaposition of feather tipped-arrow melody and the muzzle loaded direct fire music mortars.

It would appear there is no need for another soundtrack to summer, because thanks to the ever accurate Sojourn forecast, it’s the middle of winter, folks.

Sojourn’s previous recordings were produced by Loki Lockwood (Spencer P Jones, Hugo Race, The Drones). They include ‘My Lady, My Girl’ and ‘18’, used on national television and theatres to launch teen fragrance ‘Evoke’ in late 2008 and the double A-side Load Up/Spaceship launched to a sold out Toff in Town in Melbourne.

In recent times the band heat-sealed their place in both Melbourne and Los Angeles after the late 2000’s proved a good time to be an Australian musician in the United States. Sojourn were no exception in their independent and tactical assault on the Sunset Strip. The Viper Room, Roxy and a 400 capacity filled Key Club are amongst those to have felt the cold shoulder the morning after Sojourn’s heat-seeking one night stands.

Whilst themes that songwriter Jon-Lee masticates can be confusing, they are spat out in personalized delivery that is both direct and visceral. One tends to find themselves someplace between a coo and a yell.

Sojourn invite you to see how far they’ve come and see the damage done. In these uncertain times that rock and roll has left us riddled by the diseases of commercial radio fallout, you’d better get a better gun, because:

This Is Automatic.
