Like doom masters Cathedral and Electric Wizard before them, Sloth know the difference between true heaviness and mindless, Status Quo-esque boogie and on The Voice of God these wasted warriors make a ludicrously intense and hallucinatory racket. It’s like being monged out on the strongest weed imaginable while kaftan wearing dinosaurs lumber around upstairs, making the light fittings rattle. Disgustingly heavy in other words. – Kerrang



Sloth was born in August 1999 and played their first show in the September of that year, supporting Spirit Caravan.



In January 2000 the band entered Backstage Studios (where Iron Monkey’s legacy was committed to tape). With Orange Goblin / Hangnail producer Dave Chang behind the desk, they recorded their first and only demo - 3 tracks of apocalyptic doom that, while tipping their hat to Black Sabbath and Sleep do not drown in the sea of pseudo 70’s Stoner rock which dominates the current riff rock market. Rather, Sloth’s only aim was to record the heaviest doom & achieve the lowest bottom end possible.



Almost instantly the band entered into negotiations with various labels and set about writing material that would complete their debut album.



‘The Voice Of God’, released in early 2001 and again produced by Dave Chang at Backstage, consists of 9 hymns of Slow, Low and Superheavy Lysergic Doom. Imagine early Cathedral crossed with Sleep's "Holy Mountain" and you ain't even close! The album was released on JVC in Japan, The Music Cartel in the USA & was the debut release on the Eccentric Man label (set up by Tony Silvester – frontman of Dukes of Nothing) for the UK and received rave review’s among the faithful.



There followed a bout of touring with the likes of Electric Wizard, Goatsnake, Cathedral, Orange Goblin and many others until the end of 2001 when the band lost their drummer (who moved away from mainland Britain). A period of inactivity followed until a replacement was found in the shape of Alan French. The band broke him in with a UK tour supporting all girl American doomsters Bottom on their UK tour in June 2002 as well as playing the tribute shows for late Iron Monkey vocalist Johnny Morrow (alongside Orange Goblin, Dukes of Nothing, Eyehategod and many others) in August.



Following a hiatus the band signed to Rise Above Records in Late 2004.



Writing for their Rise Above debut began 2005 and the record will be recorded in Spring 2006. The as yet untitled 2nd album will be released in summer 2003 with a Rise Above re-issue of The Voice of God preceding it (until now the debut album has only been available on import in many mainland European countries).
