For the past ten years, Slightly Askew has been the leader in Pennsylvania ska. The band has been called the best ska in the state, a refreshing sound in a noisy music climate, and an inspiration to up and comers. The band sees themselves as nothing more than a group of friends who love a little known style of music with roots in Jamaica. One thing is true, Slightly Askew has made a name for itself through hard work, and great music.
In 2000, Slightly Askew was formed by students at Mansfield University. They released their first EP that year and quickly sold out of the initial pressing. In that year, ska was still looked down on by those who saw the genre rise and fall in the mid 1990s. Slightly Askew didn’t care and played with any genre of band and any concert that they could. Slightly Askew booked its first tour and headed into the Mid West to support its first full length in the Spring of 2002. After a few more releases, Slightly Askew took to the road again in 2005, this time touring down to Florida and back to the Mid West before heading home. This was to support the their critically acclaimed EP entitled The P.E.E.P. The following two years Slightly Askew played select dates on Vans Warped Tour. Slightly Askew is also the band venues call when any ska band comes through the area and needs someone to play with them, whether as an opener or a headliner.
Most recently they’ve released a full length album to celebrate their ten year anniversary as a band. The band continues to bring world class music to any venue that will have them, be it arena or basement. It’s not for the fame, or the money, or anything in between. Slightly Askew believes in the music, and the joy that it brings.
