Slackeye Slim is the alter ego of Joe Frankland; former radio announcer, music critic, recording engineer, carnie, and currently weird-West-garage and alt-other songwriter and performer. The Ohio Rust Belt native grew up playing bass in many punk, indie, and noise bands but a later move to the Rocky Mountain mining town of Butte, Montana turned Frankland to the classic country, delta blues, and psychedelic folk music. Inspired by the wealth of history he found in the surrounding mountains and ghost towns and compelled by the increasing distance between himself and modern society, Frankland began Slackeye Slim. "Slackeye Slim is a performer who combines the storytelling prowess of Red Sovine with the eerie temperament of The Twilight Zone, set to music reminiscent of Jimmy Martin with a backdrop of the Old West," says Section 08 Productions.
Texas Whore Pleaser was Slackeye Slim's debut album released Christmas Day of 2007. "The man who was born with an evil eye brings his completely self-produced and self-released debut -a kind of spooky Western country style with elements going from blues to Americana." -Pascalitos Way.
The collection of unconventional and misanthropic cowboy songs, written when Frankland was only 24, also features a guest back-up appearance by Lonesome Wyatt (Those Poor Bastards) and saw a track included on Devil’s Ruin Record’s 2006 compilation Rodentia: The Best of Dark Roots Music.
Slackeye Slim's second offering is Something And Something Else, a three song, split 10" record with The Perreze Farm (with whom Frankland has previously collaborated) which will be released on Farmageddon Records late in 2010.
El Santo Grial: La Pistola Piadosa is the second full-length from Slackeye Slim and a collaborative effort between Frankland and Graham Lindsey. For it, the two mine and combine multiple styles genre-bending with an equal diversity of instruments for the 14 songs influenced by spaghetti westerns, samurai films, and Southern Gothic Literature as much as Frankland's religious upbringing. The album is slated for release early 2011.
Currently Slackeye Slim continues performing live throughout the U.S. and has opened for acts such as Slim Cessna’s Auto Club, Th’ Legendary Shackshakers, .357 Stringband, and Those Poor Bastards. Joe Frankland now lives in Wisconsin.
