As for newer discoveries, I'm liking a Minneapolis band called SKIRT, which consists of three girls and a guy. Hear This Plane on their MySpace; Saint Vigilante has a fun retro vibe.

-USA TODAY - POP CANDY

[SKIRT] take a melodic, crunchy approach to their songs which is a nice touch. Their cool ass drummer Michelle Roche brings a ton of subtle rhythms in the mix. Linnea Mohn’s keyboards, Katie Marchall’s guitar and Scott Hefte’s bass manipulates their dynamics like heart surgeons. Throughout the recording, I was thinking to myself…self, I think this band should headline a summer music festival. It’s the kind of music you and your friends would go to see and never forget. A straight up bonding experience.

-CULTUREMOB.COM - SEATTLE, WA

"Saint Vigilante" has a complimentary blend of good vocals (almost haunting) and excellent percussions (via the beginning of the tune with a shimmering tambourine), and top marks for the title. It feels like a tribute song to a street hero who's keeping the streets from any harm with an echoing lyric uttering of "Darling I want you to be careful".

"This Plane" is a no holds barred track which starts off rather sweet and slow, until you keep listeningand listening and boom around the 45 second mark almost nearing the end, it breaks down with big crashes and yells from Linnea Mohn.

-NERDY FRAMES

SKIRT is made up of the rich pickings from several other local Minneapolis bands and what emerges has a nicely offbeat feel to it.

-MP3 HUGGER

Though I had seen the members of SKIRT play before (Linnea Mohn in Coach Said Not To and Scott Hefte in Seymore Saves the World and Superdanger) it was my first time seeing their new group live. I was immediately intrigued by drummer Michelle Roche, who stood behind her drumkit rather than sitting and spent the set banging, yelling, and beaming. Mohn took on most of the lead vocal duties, but the most enchanting moments came when Hefte added harmonies to the choruses; the two played off each other remarkably well and created a strong, unified sound.

-CITY PAGES - GIMME NOISE

Skirt’s debut album, Heartbeat. A Flameout, is a provoking, melodic voyage in feminine indie rock (sorry Scott Hefte [Seymore], but it’s true). Guided by Linnea Mohn (Coach Said Not To), this is the best album ever created by a garment which hangs from the waist and covers all or part of the legs.

Up the road and a state over, the Minneapolis foursome who compromise the band SKIRT invite you to head over to their Myspace page and check out the eloquent vocals (and equally enchanting pictures) of Linnea Mohn and Katie Marshall and their bandmates.

VERITAS LUX MEA

SKIRT , a super-group of sorts featuring the leading lights from a number of other local notables (Coach Said Not To, Seymore Saves the World, Parts For All Makes). They’ll be rocking the stage of the Kitty Cat Klub with tunes from their album Heartbeat. A Flameout., which offers a pleasing mix of sugary keyboard laden pop with just enough gritty electric guitar to keep things from getting too tweeny - plus a nice dollop of boy/girl vocal harmonies

Rob Van Alstyne - METROMIX

Born of frustration and suckled on parental warnings' is how [SKIRT] describes their genesis, and this frustration comes out in interesting ways, such as stand-up drumming (as in, unseated—but it's also pretty good) and angsty lyrics ('If I die today/It's not my problem'). Catchy guitar riffs and heavy piano are this Thanksgiving act's meat and potatoes, but it's Mohn's strong voice that sets them apart from heaps of other local acts.
