Founded in late 2006 in the misty shadows cast by the Tennessee Appalachian Mountains, Silent Stone began as a collaboration between long time friends, Matt Campbell and Brian Byrd. The pair composed several acoustic melodies before expanding to full band status with the addition of "Big Al" Drinnon, Josh Stines, and later Mat Stines. Developing a sound which blends the eclectic tastes and talents of the group as well as elements of the original acoustic sound of the founding duet, Silent Stone produces a powerful mix of blues, rock and ballads. Decidedly and unabashedly southern at its core, the music of Silent Stone transitions seamlessly through many styles and genres. At times raw and aggressive at other times heartfelt and ethereal, but always honest and relative, the songs on their debut album "From the Ashes" reflect the group’s commitment to writing and performing songs which mirror their views about "love, life, happiness and loss."

Silent Stone began performing live in mid 2007 in and around East Tennessee. Performing mostly original material with an occasional "tribute" to a favorite song or artist sprinkled in, Silent Stone is always a crowd pleasing act. Boasting sell outs and standing room only crowds, the group’s live performances are energetic and engaging. This band "brings it". A must See!

THE MEMBERS

Out front is vocalist Matt Campbell. Chief lyricist and co founding member, Matt has a unique and powerful voice. Soulful and bluesy, yet engaging and dynamic, many adjectives could be used to describe Matt;s voice, but in simplest terms "The boy can flat out sing."

Co-founder guitarist and composer, Brian Byrd is a self taught guitarist who weaves intricate melodies, crunching riffs and searing solos into the group's sound. Brain’s, extraordinarily clear tone is especially noteworthy and always on full display in his dynamic live appearances.

"Big Al" Drinnon is an accomplished bassman, who can (and usually does) get down low and funky. Just when you think that’s enough he will wow you with a 12 string bass solo that leaves you speechless. Al’s exceptionable musical ability is matched only by his natural showmanship.

Behind the massive red drumset sits drummer, Josh Stines. Obscured but never hidden, Josh plays with an energy and animation seldom seen elsewhere. A trail of broken sticks and busted cymbals leads directly to Josh.but don’t be fooled, there is plenty of technical ability to compliment the power and passion

The newest member, guitarist Mat Stines is a true multitalented musician who's credits include stints as a bassist, (callious) drummer, (Haggard Youth, The Grand Parade) guitarist (M.O.A). Mat's understated yet precise style of playing and composing is a welcome compliment to the sound of the band.
