We are a band from Sheffield called 'SHRINE OF THE MONKEY'. We met at a local jam session at THE DEEP END in SHEFFIELD about FEBRUARY 2005. As we had a lot in common musically we decided to form our own band. We spent most of 2005 writing and rehearsing and our first gig was at the end of September in 2005 at a bike rally in SHEFFIELD at THE PARK HOTEL.
Since then we have gone from strength to strength playing all over Yorkshire and Humberside. We have played such venues as :- THE GRAPES, THE NELSON, D n R LIVE, WEST STREET LIVE, THE BOARDWALK, UNDER THE BOARDWALK, THE PLUG, THE CORPORATION, ROCKWELLS, THE ARCHES, THE ROOM and THE VENUE in BARNSLEY, SNAFU in ROTHERHAM, THE WHITE ROOM in HULL, CERT 18 in YORK, THE VIC INN at COALVILLE, THE SNOOTY FOX in WAKEFIELD, THE LION in CASTLEFORD, THE CHESTERS CLUB and THE GREEN ROOM in CHESTERFIELD and JOSEPHS WELL in LEEDS where we supported BIOMECHANICAL, not to mention the countless Bars all over Yorkshire & Humberside and various Bike shows.
We had a 4 track ep out in 2006, since then been working on out debut album. We have had great write ups from Jan Auckland -"Good old fashioned soaring vocals over driving rhythms"- for The Telegraph & Star. Rhodesy - "Straight out of the 70's Rock Handbook, all of them have a Black Sabbath feel, would appeal to fans of classic rock bands such as Sabbath and Rainbow as well as fans of Black Label Society and Goatsnake"- The Coma. The Sandman, Classic Rock. "Starting off with the kind of riffing that retro Metalheads dream of. Sharp clean-cutting riffs like Saxon, Maiden or Randy Rhoads with Ozzy, makes the ears prick up"- Metal Hammer where we got 8 out of 10 in Junes edition 2006 for our debut ep. We appeared on Octobers Fear Candy unsigned cd with Terrorizer mag, other great write ups are from Metalliville.com - Glenn wrote -"Early Sabbath-like Solid, Sheffield Trio wailing it out and melodicating your mind. Anthem sounds like a Sabbath unreleased track - love the guitar solo and I'm sure Tony would too" .Metal Gremlin Webzine - Luke wrote - "A real treat of stoner rock tinged with elements of Iron Maiden like quality, this is truly a magnificent band, a true joy to behold and one i'll definately watch again". Paul wrote - "Solid British rock. It's raw, unpolished, warts 'n' all" - from 'amileinmyboots'. Also Bubblegum Slutzine. Luckily we have not had a bad write up as yet. We went into the Studio to Record our DEBUT Album MARCH 2007, but due to problems with the studio, its taken a lot longer than planned to get the album out. We would personally like to Thank a few people for believing in us along the way the last 4 and a half years on the Road. Sue Gregory for Managing/Promoting and booking all the gigs, doing the flyers, posters etc and spreading the word, Glenn Milligan from Metalliville.com, Paul Richmond who set up our first website and has been a constant source of support, Kev Lee Jr for setting up the bands Official Website and the Band Site on My Space. Paul Carlton for a great write up when we first started and for becoming a great friend since and supporting us when ever he can. The Longriders who gave us our first gig. The Coma, Sandman, Telegraph & Star etc for the Great reviews. Tarana Rob for helping us so much with the CDs. Mick and James from Darnall Music Factory. Lord Zombie for his great write ups and gigs he organised. Various bands i.e Ten Foot Dolls, Warhead, Nyasi Forte, Subliminal Fear, Silverjet, Crimes Of Passion, In The Name Of, Rise To Addiction, ALLERJEN, RATTLESNAKE REMEDY, SEVEN YEARS DEAD, BIOMECHANICAL etc., BEN WARD from ORANGE GOBLIN. And where would we be without our loyal families, friends and fans in every town we have been? And all the Venues we have played at. Not forgetting the guys from Barnsley. And My Space has been amazing in getting the band world wide recognition. Thanks to everyone who has been involved so far.
On 9.2.07 we played at a Meningitis Charity Event at the Boardwalk in Sheffield. The Event was organised by Steve from 'In The Name Of'. Despite the bad weather conditions everyone turned up and made it a successful evening. The line up was :- Charlie Barker, JOHN PARR, In The Name Of, Us (Shrine of the Monkey) and Duran. It was an awesome evening and we got to spend time with John Parr before he went on stage. He is an amazing man and so friendly. We are still gigging and trying to make a name for ourselves and hope the debut album is out soon. Thank you to you all for your continuing support over the last few years.
