SHORTWAVE releases their full length The Skyline Verses this February 2011, recorded with Producer Byron Wong (The Crystal Method, Beck, David Bowie) and Jeremy Darby (The Trews, Billy Talent, The Tragically Hip).
SHORTWAVES's new-wave indie-rock is smart and sexy, anthems of heartbreak and triumph that tug at the heartstrings and speak to the masses. On The Skyline Verses, pulsating dance-rock track "Esther" and contemplative ballad "Stereo" fit nicely between Kings of Leon and U2 on radio playlists.
SHORTWAVE's previous self-titled album (2008) was recorded in NY with Grammy awarded producer Malcolm Burn and got some airplay on CBC Radio 2, 102.1 The Edge and college radio, as well as several licensing placements and with . With features in national and local dallies as well as a video for "Stereo" in rotation on MuchMusic, the album showed SHORTWAVE had the right elements, the right songs, and the fans to propel their burgeoning career. That momentum continues with The Skyline Verses.
SHORTWAVE trace their origins back to their childhood - brothers Ry (vocals/guitar) and Sager Johnson (guitar) grew up in Toronto with Devin Jannetta (drums), forming various bands and sharing stages with artists the likes of Big Sugar, Junkhouse, and SuperFriendz. In 2004, friend Cary was brought on to add keyboard texture and SHORTWAVE continues to bring tight, sweat-inducing shows, to a growing audience.
If you've seen SHORTWAVE, you'll agree their live show swagger serves them well. SHORTWAVE has shared the stage with Cracker and The Waking Eyes and headlined gigs at the Mod Club, the Legendary Horseshoe Tavern, Lee's Palace, and the El Mocambo.
SHORTWAVE tours this Jan, Feb, and March in support of their latest offering, with the Release February 4th at The Legendary Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto.
