Halifax based singer/songwriter, Sheva Solomon, is an artist with such purity and emotion in her voice that it resonates with her audience with every note. You are then taken to places you haven't been to in a long time. Sheva's first record, produced by critically acclaimed Vancouver-based producer Dale Penner (Holly McNarland, Nickelback, Matthew Good Band) was a collection of original songs with their fluid stream of confessional lyrics and lifting melodies that allowed her rich vocals to flow through poignant musical peaks and valleys.
A captivating artist, Sheva has shared the stage with Meaghan Smith, Dave Gunning, Lukas Rossi (of Rock Star fame), Shawn Hlookaff, Tyler Kyte (of Degrassi fame), and ……to name a few. But after touring her debut record, The Closest Thing, throughout Canada and many parts of the United States, including New England, Tennessee, Texas, and Los Angeles for a Pre-Grammy Showcase in 2008, Sheva was starting to quietly draw away from the music scene through no other reason except for because she started to feel like she was lost in the shuffle and was confused about where she was going and who she was as an artist.
Sheva decided to take some time off from music. Trying to feel creative and inspired started to feel more like a chore instead of something that used to come so naturally and through all of this came a poignant and ever changing moment in her life that should have brought about all of the inspiration she was searching for. On June 18, 2010, Sheva gave birth to her first child, a daughter named Raiyah Lily. Raiyah was the most precious, inspirational gift anyone could ever wish for. But with her birth came the challenges of motherhood and Sheva found herself putting music on the backburner once again. It was a challenging task to be a good mother, to be a self-employed business owner with no maternity leave, and then to try to write songs and be creative. Life seemed to get in the way for a while, but in all of this were amazing experiences with Raiyah and the joy of being a mother for the first time.
Eventually, everything starts to make sense and become inspiring after hearing some of her newer songs in a new light. With a routine starting to kick in, Sheva slowly has begun to dive back into her music. Starting with the idea of taking one of her previously recorded songs and turning it into a country song for the sole purpose of pitching it to Nashville, Sheva's music has begun to take on a new form. With a new record on the horizon that will be produced with subtleties of middle eastern sounds, mandolin, violin, strings, and an organic/live off the floor feel, Sheva's music is about to take shape once again in a whole new and fresh way. Along with a new record, Sheva is currently working on a film style documentary that bridges the gap between the struggling ups and downs of the music business and what exactly can go through your mind when a new addition is added to the mix. This documentary will be co-released alongside of the record, with a tentative release date of September 2011
