SHAOLIN - THE ZEN OF REGGAE MUSIC
In the middle 90ies Puppa Shaolin startet to play music and felt deeply in love with Reggae's Foundation, Dancehall and carribean culture.
Later his Sound "Shaolin" started to grow slowly but steadily and did play nice sets on Bashments in the area, consequently invitations followed to play their sound in dances all over Germany and at some places in Europe. First Dubplates were voiced by artists like Luciano, Chaka Demus & Pliers, Everton Blender, Sean Paul, etc. to give the sound a specific touch.
Chris-I, who started as a musician in the reggae biz in the 90ies, heavily invested in a dubplatbox, not worrying about the moola, that established the sounds clash reputation. At occasions like the “Franken-Reggae Clash” in early 2005 or the “Spanish Clash” in 2006, Shaolin proved that they could compete with other soundsystems. Shaolin finished on 4th position in the 2007 “DHM E-Clash” among 64 Sounds participating.
Today, Shaolin can fall back on their over years collected foundation specials like for example Culture, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Justin Hinds, Toots & The Maytals, Eek A Mouse, Hopeton James, Marcia Griffith, but as well as new real specials like from Rodney Price, Sizzla, Capleton, Luciano and the “Dons” like Pinchers and Ninjaman to name only a few.
Alltough Shaolin had to go through some breakups in the past, the crew is now stronger than before and the sounds foundation stone is still active since the founder members "Iyamurderer" and "Chris-I" are still an important part of the Shaolin Family. Another Shaolin veteran is Thomas aka “Vibescontroller” who is one of the guys working in the background.
Alongside these founder members the current team consists of the top-selector “Harry Rockwell” and the liveartist “Pharaow”. In this new musical unit, Shaolin is able, and now also willing, to please every head and every newcomer in the dance to the fullest, with a selection reaching from the early 60s to the latest Dancehall and Hiphop selection. The Shaolin selection is under no self-censorship and the Dance is living from variety and entertainement.
The Shaolin entertains the region with highquality events like the “Official German DancehallQueenContest”, soundclashs or live-events with big acts like KingKong, Pinchers, YT, Admiral Bailey, Alton Ellis and many more. Additionally, Shaolin Soundstation has been running its regular Dance in N�rnberg for more than 4 years now. National and international soundsystems have been invited to play their sound in the temple.
