Shannon Wakefield grew up in an isolated farm property in Carag Carag, Victoria Australia.
A self proclaimed reject was he asked to leave his high school by the vice principal. Due to his consant apposing of authority.
He moved schools for one year then the following year dropped out of University after just a few months.
Shannon decided to learn guitar to stem his boredom of living on a farm.
After 6 months of living with his guitar he relocated to Bendigo to form a band under the guise of completing an IT degree.
As a 19 year old Shannon formed Ruteger whom released 2 albums, 3 Ep's on various indie labels worldwide (MGM, Wizzard In Vinyl, Jam Records). Ruteger won various band competitions Australia wide (Rolling Stone Magazine, State Tafe Campus Band Comp, The Push), received critical acclaim (Single of Week,-Beat Mag, Album Of Month – Sain Mag), appeared on numerous compilation albums (Popboomerang, Longneck), adds to Triple J rotation & Interviews (Inc being selected as one of 30 best new bands for the 1st OZ music month).
Ruteger played festivals, & toured with their heroes "The Fauves" on numerous occasions. Ruteger supported bands such as Wolfmother, You Am I, The Living End, & Motorace. After 8 years as a band Ruteger landed a record deal with Shock Records home of the White Stripes.
Soon after this deal in 2005 Ruteger imploded so as Ruteger's sole songwriter Shannon decided to write in a different musical direction.
The result was Shannon's self titled solo album and subsequently an EP titled "Beautiful Mistake" both released on Rubber Records in 2006.
Shannon co-produced the album with Woody Annison (Children Collide, Kylie Minogue) and the EP he produced/recorded himself at various studios throughout Victoria.
After playing a hand full of shows in 2006/2007 with his backing band 'The Departments" and receiving positive press Shannon disappeared to become a recluse, spend time with his family and function in the 9am-5pm realm of life.
Not picking up a guitar for nearly three years Shannon was asked to reform Ruteger for two shows and support friend Steve Lane's CD launches in 2010. After these two shows Shannon caught the musical virus again and has started working on various studio projects.
A rock project called "Clank Clank Yr Dead" which is inspired by bands such as Helmet, Quicksand and Nirvana has nearly completed an EP and will play live in mid 2012.
Shannon's states "I'm not interested in playing my solo stuff live, when I chose to play live I will be only be performing with CCYD as it's primal, raw and unstable."
Shannon is currently writing new solo tracks for other artists or to release himself in the future. He is writing in prolific and varied stating he is generally inspired by Ryan Adams's body of work.
All the songs Shannon has written has lead him to sign a worldwide music publishing deal with Ink Music Publishing/Sony ATV Publishing in 2011.
Shannon is looking forward to co-writing/producing with other artists into the future.
