Clash Magazine: "Seraphim Codex - Croatian Dance Deviant"

Despite having spent the best part of a decade seeding BPM’s across Eastern Europe, Croatia’s Seraphim Codex (aka Robert Imbrišic) only really came to Clash’s attention in the lurid land of hope that is Las Vegas. Better late than never though, eh? Coated with the glazed focus of Trentemoller and given added texture through intelligent compositions, Seraphim Codex makes dance music that connects just as effectively with the cerebrum as it does the soles of your feet. Oh, and he does a mean Joy Division cover to boot. Sold!

SERAPHIM CODEX

One of the Pioneers of the Croatian Dance scene, Robert (aka Seraphim Codex) has enjoyed 15 years as one of the major players in this beautiful part of the world. His 1st vinyl release was in 1993 (Force X - Eyes of Destruction) on Loving Ed Records and ever since he has enjoyed great success as a Producer with releases on labels such as Proton Music, Super8, Balkan Connection & BodyJack, which he first showcased as a live act at the legendary "Futureshock 2001" parties between 1993 & 1996.

As a DJ, Robert has had a hand in some of the most prolific Croatian Dance projects such as MTV Valkana Beach, the famous Dubrovnik NYE Celebrations & The Hartera Festival in Rijeka. But he is most proud of his residency at fellow Croatian techno legend Petar Dundov's "Perfection" nights in Zagreb where he gained a residency in 2002. As for the here and now, Robert continues to have a hand in most of the major parties in Croatia & this summer played alongside the likes of Carl Cox & John Digweed to name but a couple.

In 2006 Robert won the Croatian Heineken Thirst Studio Competition and travelled to Los Angeles to produce with BT (Brian Transeau). From here he went on to the world finals held in Las Vegas where he played at the infamous Tao Club alongside Paul Oakenfold, Gabriel & Dresden & DJ Aoki. This aside, the list of who's who in Electronic Music that has shared a stage with Seraphim Codex over the years is insanely long & interesting (Ritchie Hawtin, Sven Vath, Pascal FEOS, Dave Clarke, Jeff Mills, Joel Mull, Petar Dundov, Soulwax, Paul Van Dyk, etc.) & not only crosses continents but all styles of this wonderful thing we call "House".

His productions & live act are a mixture of electronic and organic sounds with intelligent grooves, powerful bass lines and most importantly an "epic feel". And after 15 years as a tour de force on the global dance scene, there is no doubt as to why Seraphim Codex stands out amongst the many great artists we have the pleasure of enjoying today.
