---------------------------------
Scissor Press is a media
company that formed in late 2000. Our flagship publication is Verbicide
Magazine, a quarterly periodical that focuses on independent literature,
music, and art. It is released in March, June, September, and December, and currently has
a per-issue press run of 25,000 copies. It is distributed freely across the US in cities include New York, Los Angeles, Austin, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Boston/New England (via Newbury Comics), Portland (OR), Bloomington, Rochester, and many others.
Verbicide magazine
was founded by Jackson Ellis in 1999. The first two issues were cut & paste
photocopied half-sized zines--a far cry from the current offset, glossy cover
format!
Over the years, Verbicide
has featured many bands and musicians, including Chuck D (Public Enemy), Henry
Rollins (Black Flag/Rollins Band), Mike D (Beastie Boys), Saul Williams, Ian MacKaye (Fugazi/Evens), Lee Ranaldo (Sonic
Youth), Dan Hoerner (Sunny Day Real Estate), Jesse Michaels (Common Rider/Operation
Ivy), and many more. We've also featured interviews with and writing by some
of the top writers and publishers of our time--ranging from world-famous authors Hunter S. Thompson,
Ray Bradbury, John Fante, Jack Kerouac, Nelson Algren, Tim O'Brien, and Dennis Lehane, to lesser-known scribes such as
Raegan Butcher, Mark Huddle, Christopher Staley, Kris Sevillena, Christopher
Connal, Seth Gotro, Charles Romalotti, Amy Schroeder, Jason J. Marchi, Todd
Taylor, and Sean Carswell.
Other projects of Scissor
Press include the publication of Nate Pollard's Abstract Fantasy
comic books, and the New Sounds CD sampler series, available for free at Newbury Comics.
Past projects of Scissor
Press have included the release of a CDEP by Maryland punk rockers The
Mishaps, the PROTECT punk rock compilation CD released in conjunction with Fat Wreck Chords to benefit The
National Association to Protect Children, two issues of Excommunication Fanzine, one issue
of Boston Heights Magazine, one issue of the writers' resource guide The Anvil, and the online literature
zine Terraspatial, created by former Scissor Press co-publisher,
Douglas Novielli.
