Swedens most famous and fantastic guitarist, Janne Schaffer, was born in Stockholm, Sweden in -45. He grew up in Bromma, where he actually built his first guitar in highschool and thats when he started playing guitar.
At first he played with a few local bands, then in 1962-63 he and a friend called Ted Åström formed Ted & the Caracas, where he later on got fired from so he started playing with bands like Poptwins, Twinpopsoch Chicks, Noisemen and The Sleepstones which changed the name into Attractions in -66. At the same time he began studying at the university and after he had played with The Sleepstones a couple of years he replaced Jojje Wadenius in the group Grapes of wrath.
There he met the drummer Ola Brunkert with whom they and bassplayer Björn Stolt formed Opus III & Friends which sometimes played with the singer Björn Skifs.
Björn Skifs wanted Janne to play on his solo debute album "Both sides now"-70 and that was the beginning of his career as a session guitarist.
He got the oppertunity to play with musicians such as Abba, Ted Gärdestad, Cornelis Vreeswijk, Barbro Hörberg, filmmusic with Johnny Nash and Bob Marley, Radiojazzgruppen, Carla Bley, recordings with Art Farmer and Tony Williams.
He was a member of the the houseband in the popular swedish television show "Oppopoppa" which had famous guests such as Frank Zappa, Tina Turner, Todd Rundgren, Neil Sedaka, Georgie Fame etc. and that gave him a lot of experience.
In -73 he recorded his first solo album on Four-Leaf Clover, and to his surprise hit the top charts despite the non-commersial music he had made. He and his good friend, the fantastic fluteplayer, keyboardplayer and composer Björn J.son Lindh formed the group Hörselmat/Earmeal in which Ola Brunkert also was a part of in the beginning.
In -74 he recorded his second solo album which also was a success and in -75, he recorded "Katharsis"on CBS which led to a world wide release.
After a great review in the magazine Rolling Stone, he was given the opportunity to play at a big festival in Montreaux with CBS All Stars, for example Stan Getz, Maynard Ferguson, Dexter Gordon, George Duke, Billy Cobham and a double album was released. He also got the opportunity to record an album with musicians from the group Toto.
In -76 a band called Electric Banana Band was formed to make music for a Swedish television program for children called Trazan& Banarne. Today, 30 years later it is still a huge success, and they even make an effort for a better environment by teaching children and collecting for ex. old batterys from kids toys etc.
In -84 he started his own record company EARMEAL, which his later albums are released on. He won a Grammy award -89 for the "Best instrumental album" with "Electric Graffitti" and the same year, great sucsess with "Julglöd"(christmas songs).
In -99 Electric Banana Band won a Grammy for "Best children album" and Janne also gets the"Hagström"-award.
Janne Schaffer is a wonderful musician, with many great albums over the years, many many more to comealways untieringly touring and giving his wonderful concerts all year through.
