Sara Grabow is that rare thing: a familiar face and a fresh voice.

Daughter to Danish troubadour Sebastian, Sara possesses the gentle familial finger-picking gene, which can be heard from her earliest tunes as a 12-year old to her latest numbers as a Cope Records recording artist. She also radiates a warm and wounded humanity that makes even her saddest songs sweetly appealing.

Sara’s coming out was as one half of Saranoah, the Danish duo she fronted with Noah Rosanes. Their debut CD Mund Til Mund (Mouth To Mouth) featured the radio hit 3 X 6 and established her as a voice on the verge.

Then, in 2006, she broke with tradition and released her first album of songs in English. It’s called Blueberries. It was also her first taste of domestic strife, and the record chronicles the lovelorn loneliness of a relationship’s last days.

This year’s CD, "Rude, Unbending & Lusty", addresses the newly empty domicile with a litany of pleas … and an inventory of shelves, shades and sheets. But the broken heart of the album trembles like a cluster of autumn leaves. Set out in the cruel beauty of nature unyielding, the songs River Song, The Oak Tree, and Before The Storm form quite a trio of resignation, affirmation, and annihilation.

Then the air clears (as it so often does) with a fitting interlude, a twisting turning point, and a suitable illusion, before the record closes with the hurt and hopeful Only Time Will Tell.

Good thing we have Sara Grabow to remind us . familiarly and freshly.
