sanso-xtro is melissa agate. born and raised in Adelaide, Australia. a drummer who makes a kind of alien folk music with other instruments plus some drums.



Her debut album 'Sentimentalist' was released on Type records in 2005.

an album of fragile melodies and angular rhythms made with guitars, drums, ukulele, kalimba, analogue synthesizers and a collection of small instruments Her influences are as far reaching as her musical ambition, and she takes well informed references from avant jazz, folk, avant rock and experimental electronic works.



Inspired by her antipodean background, sunrise, sunset, heatwaves and also from a life-changing move to British shores, Sentimentalist is deeply reflective and unashamedly visual. Subtle analogue experimentations and brave acoustic instrumentation.



After a seven year stay in London sanso leaped back to South Australia for a short while to touch base, swim in the Southern Ocean and awake to the sound of kookaburras whilst writing and recording her second album 'fountain fountain, joyous mountain' which is due to be released on Digitalis in October 2010.
