March 2011 sees the release of the upfront, taster EP Her Time Of Day from singer/songwriter/guitarist, Sam Hare ahead of the release of his long-awaited debut album, Down To The Sea.
Sam’s EP highlights three of the eleven self-penned originals that feature on Down To The Sea which draws on Blues, Country and Southern Soul – an English version of Americana, a ‘real’ sounding rootsy album. Recorded in the old style using analogue the sound achieved is nonetheless very much a sound for today. Reminiscent of The Band or Exile on Main Street, it was mastered by Giles Martin at the world famous AIR Studios, and features a guest appearance by British guitar stalwart, Matt Schofield.
A preview copy of Down To The Sea was quickly picked up by Robert Elms on BBC London, who was so impressed by the authentic sound of what he heard that he invited Sam to come in for an interview and live acoustic session.
Sam is a Londoner who gained his reputation playing the blues clubs of Britain, alongside artists such as Ian Siegal, Jeremy Spencer (Fleetwood Mac), Matt Schofield, Lee Sankey, Scott McKeon, Giles King, Buddy Whittington and legendary sax-man Raphael Ravenscroft. He was personally invited to guest with Bonnie Bramlett (Delaney & Bonnie) at her last London gig prompting Blues in Britain to write: “Sam Hare can comfortably stand in that long distinguished line of Bonnie Bramlett’s guitar players”
Sam is also gaining a reputation as a songwriter, and has collaborated on songs with Ian Siegal and Matt Schofield; Ian Siegal has covered two of his songs so far, ‘The Good Home’ (The Dust) and ‘Stealing From The Queen’ (Broadside).
Recently he’s worked with up-and-coming production duo, JetTricks, a favourite of Huey Morgan (Fun Lovin’ Criminals/BBC 6 Music), and has contributed a track for their next album. He has also played several gigs with Saint Jude, including last year’s Bospop festival. Sam has also played with his own band and solo acoustic at Bestival, The Big Chill, and major venues across the UK and Europe.
Sam will be on tour in the UK in early 2011, either solo or with his band that features Joe Glossop (Graffiti 6, Saint Jude, James Hunter) on Hammond organ, Fergus Hare on bass and Ed Green on drums.
