The Sallys, formerly known as Sally's Rejex; started out as a 5-piece pop-punk band infusing two-tone ska and reggae rhythms with the members being Azly Jacaz, Shafiq Iskandar, Rusdi Badri, Md Khidir and Izwan Khuzair.
Formed spontaneously on 26th October 2004 specifically for an event entitled "First Step" organized by Keith of Lee Kwong Seng Music Studio, the band played their first show at The Substation on 26th November 2004.
Unbeknownst to them, it was the start of a journey into the Singapore music scene.
The band played more shows in the next several months and went on to produce their first 9-track EP despite being relatively unknown which resulted in poor sales. On the bright sight, they were featured in Mediacorp's Radio Singapore International for the promotion of the release. Undaunted, they played more shows before it became too routine that a couple of the members lost interest.
Azly Jacaz left to pursue other creative interests in the field of photography and design while Md Khidir or 'Kidcat' as he is more affectionately known, left to pursue his career in nursing. Along the way, Anhar (former sessionist drummer for Force Vomit/Tiramisu) took on drums with Chuck coming on keyboards (after which was shortly replaced by Narene Yong who subsequently left the band too). Razif Sarif was later added as a 2nd guitarist; Anhar left and Kazhendra Kas Kazan whom previously assisted in the recording of the horns section in the said EP took over and Azam (Deviation of Ska) took over on bass.
In 2007, the band added the horns section, made up of Zahidah on trombone and Yusri on trumpet. They were selected to play in Baybeats that year and were voted 2nd most favourite band in the said music festival, with an average crowd of 70,000.
Their hit single, "Lady Marmalade" won the hearts of many with thousands downloading it as mobile ringtones, and the track making its waves in Singapore radio stations, 98.7FM, 89.7FM. Additionally, the track was selected as a 30-second sampler in one of MTV Asia music commercials and they too, were featured in Channel NewsAsia as well as SPH's national malay newspaper, Berita Harian.
Azly Jacaz returned in 2008 to take over as Manager, also collaborating with Shafiq Iskandar on the songwriting for The Sallys debut album.
With a new sound and a reinforced line-up, the band is set on taking on the music scene again.
Ladies & Gentlemen, we are, The Sallys.
