The universe is silent in this late hour, deathly still and ominously serene. Through countless stars and their solar systems, an unspoken repose hangs in the cold vacuum of space. Earth, spinning as it has for millennia, crosses the plane of the Milky Way galaxy, marking the end of a fifth age. According to prophecy, a fearsome portent of an apocalypse nigh; a dark time indeed…
A shadow to envelop a thousand stars, an umbra ten shades darker than the blackest black hole lurks beyond the sight of earth's primitive instruments of observation. This malignant entity looms, like some galactic serial killer bent on ultimate genocide: ending life in all galaxies misfortunate enough to fall under its hungering gaze. It is the end of everything as we know it, of everything as it was ever known, ever, times infinity, forever and ever. No fucking return.
But perhaps there is hope. Perhaps. Planets both known and unknown fall into sacred alignment, and shines a shimmering lance of hope into the souls of the earth's true faithful. The will of these devoted few manifests as a celestial titan, tearing forth from the heavens, clad in metal plate of unknown origin, and wielding dual weapons of cataclysmic power, stoic in his charge to defend the honor of the earth. Gaea's guardian angel, destroyer of destroyers… The Sacred Ally has risen.
Vernon Thompson (vocals) is his helm: like blackened iron, pitted and scarred from endless battle, horns sawed from the head of a most terrifying beast, and from within echo the guttural war cries of a primal soul tearing itself asunder. Tyler Gregg (guitars), his left hand: gripping tight a flail fashioned from Venus' forgotten moon, the skull-shattering lash of the Morning Star. Collin Wo (guitars), his right hand: brandishing a fearsome hammer, whose very blows warp and crack the space-time continuum. Jason Oliynyk (drums) is his breastplate: ornamented with spikes, battle-scars and dried blood, housing the vein-bursting pulse of the heart of a giant of pure metal. Joon Dit (bass guitars) is his cloak: rippling and flowing in haunting rhythms, whipping through space and scattering asteroid belts in his wake.
Sacred Ally is progressive power metal from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, fused with elements from death, speed and thrash metal into a heavy metal melting pot of technical riffage and dual blazing solos, all driven by pulse-quickening rhythms. Sacred Ally's music is fast, aggressive, high energy and at its best live and loud, where the intensity reaches a frenzy. It is heavy metal soul music; memorable songs with choruses and hooks that lodge themselves firmly in "the spot" in your head weeks after hearing them.
Formed in 2005, Sacred Ally was born of discourse between the guitars of Collin and Tyler, with Jason and Vernon joining the ranks soon after to solidify the vision into a reality. With bassist Erik Smistad and Pamela Porosky on keys, the band was ready to lose its show virginity, taking place Halloween 2005. Entered in Roli Mack's Bandwarz, they came out victorious, leaving 54 other bands weeping for their mothers in a smoldering heap. Pamela and her keys then left the band, and Erik soon followed suit, to be replaced by former Skulldozer and Stinger frontman Pete Klassen on bass. With this roster, the band played dozens of shows across western Canada and recorded their first EP, Balls Deep in Metal, in 2007.
Halloween 2010, on the band's 5th year anniversary, they all but disappeared from the public eye to record their first full length album, Reality Hammer. During this time, Sacred Ally was nominated at the 2010 Alberta Metal Awards for "Fan Favorite," lost Pete Klassen to studies abroad in Japan and endured a grueling 15 month crucible of recording hell. Clawing their way through their first major release, Sacred Ally now returns to playing gigs to promote their new album and sets their sights on horizons west and east, and to the unknown lands to the south.
All the while, a malignant entity of living annihilation sets upon our solar system, and only one being stands between it and the utter destruction of all that we know… Searching for hope… In the end…
