Rous Sareysothea was Cambodia's most popular female vocalist during the 60's and 70's. Her unique voice and talent remains incomparable. Unfortunately, when the Khmer rouge took over the country in 1975, most artists, musicians, and intellectuals were executed including Rous Sareysothea. A majority of her work did not survive the Khmer rouge as they destroyed all types of entertainment. A short film titled "The Golden Voice" depicts the last days of her life even though no one really knows how she perished. If you enjoy her songs don't forget to check out Dengue Fever, an American band that covers some of her works but also writes their own songs.
