Biography:
The words 'haunting', 'mesmeric', 'quirky', 'memorable', 'exceptional' and 'brilliant' have all been used to describe acoustic singer-songwriter Rosie Sleightholme, whose voice has been compared to the likes of Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell and Florence Welch. Classically trained in piano and cello and immersed in music from a young age, Rosie started writing songs as an Archaeology student at university. Performing regularly as a band cellist and doing occasional solo gigs following university, Rosie started gigging seriously as a solo artist in 2010, following a year of travelling around the world. It was during this year away singing, writing and performing songs in many different countries, that she gained the confidence to pursue her talent. Her aim is to write and record honest music from the heart that others can relate to.
During 2010 Rosie got through to the Regional Finals of UK Live and Unsigned 2010, the final of Sing For Your Supper 2010, and won the University of The Arts London Big T Talent Show. She also self-recorded her first EP, Full Circle, and performed on various local radio shows including Hayes FM and Brooklands Radio's Surrey Unsigned. Rosie has performed at several festivals over the last few years, including Guilfest, Landed, Fire in The Mountain and Glastonbury, as well as playing a number of support slots for established artists. She has played at top London acoustic venues including Kensington Roof Gardens, Notting Hill Arts Club, Ronnie Scotts, The Bedford, The Half Moon, The Troubadour, The Regal Room and Proud Camden. In late 2011 Rosie moved to the Welsh mountains to write and record and enjoy life away from the bustle of the city. She regularly returns to London for gigs and looks forward to performing over more of the UK and further afield in 2012.
