From the Chicago area originally, trumpeter Rolf Langsjoen started out playing with the John Garvey Big Band at the University of Illinois with Lawrence Hobgood, Dan Anderson, Larry Biers, Art Davis, Mark Kirk, Ray Sasaki, Jeff Helgesen, Kevin Kaiser, and many other fine contributors to the Chicago hard bop scene. While studying in Philadelphia Langsjoen toured with the rock reggae band SCRAM, backing up De La Soul, Fishbone, Fugazi, EEK A Mouse, The Toasters, The Almighty Senators. In 1992 he moved to Paris to play with the Brotherhood Of Breath, Black Pyramid, Rido Bayonne, Teri Moise, Enrico Macias, Jacky Terrason, Alain Jean-Marie, Laurent Coq, John Betsch, Chris Cody, Freddy Clayton, Chris Dailey, and many others on the Paris scene at that time. 1996 New York City. Performance and recording credits in New York include The Bad Brains, The Bouncing Souls, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Groove Collective, The Stubborn All Stars, The Slackers, The Supertones, The Rocksteady Seven, Dub Is A Weapon, Roots And Culture, Victor Rice, Ranking Joe, Johnny Osborne, Glen Brown, Ashanti Congo Roy, Dr. Israel, Rocker T, King Django, Skinnerbox, The Jammyland All Stars, The Motives, Otis Day and the Knights, Archie Bell and the Drells, the Charles Tolliver Big Band, Avram Fefer, a whole parade of avante-jazz musicians that pass through the musical revolving door that is Nicolas Letman-Burtinovic's Haleoscene and Bomb X, and finally, his own ensemble, featuring Art Hirahara on piano, Yoshi Wakinori on bass, and Lieven Venken on drums. Now living in Brussels BE, Langsjoen plays with the KMGs, the Moon Invaders, Ken Boothe, Owen Gray, Winston Francis, Doreen Shaffer, Rico Rodriguez, Pat Kelly, The Pioneers.
