Ric Notes

While many of us waste precious years trying to find our calling, Ric Notes always knew he could only be dedicated to a life of music. Gifted with an ear for sound since childhood, Ric taught himself to play the guitar, bass, drums and keyboards in order to elevate his skills as a producer. “My strengths are sampling and chopping up samples, and I also think my ability to play different instruments lets me add a lot on top of my beats.” Ric is careful to be influenced without imitating his favorite artists. He appreciates sample heavy selections like Pete Rock and DJ Premier, remains innovative like J-Dilla and Timbaland while infusing the backbone of Curtis Mayfield, Jerry Butler and Willie Hutch into every single song.



As Ric’s confidence grew, he decided to make his private love for production public and allowed past hustles to pay for future plans. Focused on the music, Ric never considered going the 9-5 route. “I saw so many acquaintances going into jobs that they hated just for the money, and I couldn’t do that. I had to get into something that I loved.” Years of effort became validated after Ric Notes took home 3 titles from “Battle of the Beatmakers”, a showcase for Toronto’s best producers.



Leveraging those achievements, Ric has lent his skills to a new generation of Canadian Hip-Hop and R&B artists like Shad, Tona, Drake, Choclair, Ayah, and Seazon who all liked his distinct and eclectic style. Enjoying awards and recognition from artists and now being embraced by the best in the business, Ric Notes sees the affirmation that he is walking the right path. “I chose this field because music has been a part of my life since I was born. I love doing it, and I don’t think anything else would leave me satisfied.”
