Bassist Rick Rosato began his musical career in Montreal. At the age of 18, he was already performing on the local scene. In the summer of 2005, he was selected along with eight other musicians from across Canada to participate in the National Galaxie Rising Youth All-Stars Jazz Clinic and performed with them at the Ottawa International Jazz Festival. In the summer of 2006, he received a grant to attend the Banff Centre for the Arts Jazz Workshop under the direction of Dave Douglas, and performed there with notables such as Marcus Strickland and Rez Abbasi. In 2010, he graduated from The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City where he studied with Larry Grenadier, Matt Brewer, Ari Hoenig, Ben Street, Aaron Goldberg, Aaron Parks, Thomas Morgan, Reggie Workman, and Joe Chambers. Some notable venues he has performed at include: Smalls Jazz Club, The Jazz Gallery, Bern International Jazz Festival, The Bimhuis, Upstairs, The Rex, and The Cellar. Rick has toured with The Ari Hoenig Quartet, and The Leboeuf Brothers Quintet, and has also performed with Aaron Parks, Tigran Hamasyan, Dan Weiss, Ambrose Akinmusire, Gilad Hekselman, Lage Lund, Jonathan Kreisberg, Yotam Silberstein, Ben van Gelder, David Virelles, and Colin Stranahan. In the fall of 2010, he led a three-month-long artist series at the Upstairs Jazz Club, where he played with different groups featuring some of today’s most influential voices in jazz. He is currently living in Montreal, completing a master’s degree in music at McGill University. His most current and active project is with a collective trio featuring Colin Stranahan and Glenn Zaleski.
