On May 16th 1977, The Clash played at Swansea University, The Damned caused a riot in North Staffordshire Polytechnic, Keith Richards checked into a psychiatric centre in New York and, in the very un-rock n' roll London suburb of Pinner, Richard Lobb was born.
An accident-prone Richard spent most of his childhood getting lost in the woods, climbing and often falling out of trees, sketching anything that stayed still long enough, playing football and noodling on his uncle's guitar or Elton John's old piano. He is happy to report that, 30 years later, little has changed…
He now noodles on his guitar for a living, writing songs for himself and with other people (published by Reverb Music), hosts a weekly live music night in North London (The Toy Box) where he encourages other fully grown adults to act like children, and he plays guitar and keys in The Hours - with whom he has just finished recording a new album (See The Light) produced with Flood (U2, Smashing Pumpkins, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, PJ Harvey). The album will be released on 'Is Good Ltd.' in April 2009.
Richard's debut solo album Richard Lobb & The Sweat Band was released on his own label 'Katheiro' in 2007. He is currently working on material for a new record to be released later this year. His band (Jon Green, Tom Meadows, Ben Epstein) are currently on a season-long lone to Duffy United, but can still be found accompanying Richard and playing with their toys on many a Thursday night at The Toy Box – which has seen performances from Duffy, The Hours, Lucie Silvas, Anna Krantz, Simon Lynge, Laura & The Tears and many more.
As well as writing for himself and with The Hours, Richard has co-written songs with many new and established artists, including Lucie Silvas, Simon Lynge, Jenny-Lynn Smith, Aret, Rosi Golan (Rosi and Richard's song "Hazy" has just been used on 'One Tree Hill'). He also makes regular trips to Nashville and LA to get creative with writers including Don Poythress, Chris Tompkins, Chris Eaton and Angela Kaset.
UPDATE.
My song LOST AND FOUND is the B-side to Matt Cardle's new single Run For Your Life. Coolio!
New album is very nearly finished and I'm uber-excited to release it into the universe!
In November, I'll be hitting the US of A with The Hours, supporting Noel Gallagher on his North American tour. Yay!
