Nick Howard (Reflex) Producer/Mix engineer/Recording Artist
Nick has excellent credentials as a Producer, Recording Engineer, and Proffessional DJ. Nick is a versatile music producer and mix engineer, working across a variety of genres. A graduate of the Academy of Contemporary music, Nick is qualified in both music business and music production, helping to strengthen his skills within a studio environment. With a professional attidude towards clients, Nick is capable of working with a variety of musicians, bands and solo artists alike. Nick's main area of expertise, lies in the electronic and dance music genres, however Nick is also an experienced live producer, often recording bands and musicians, in his project studio. Having worked with an array of artists, in his 10 year production career, Nick is comfortable working on tracks from major label artists or individual singer/songwriters. Previous clients include the legendary Jamaican rapper, Daddy Freddy(4 times Guiness world records champion) and Singer/Songwriter former vocalist to "Way Out West" (Polygram) , Taja. Other clients include Rapper/MC – Mike Wiley (towerblock) ,Dance Diva – Jacinta, Dubstep vocalist – Shadz (H.E.N.C.H), Grime crew – Pro Status, The Yearner Babies, The Late reggae guitarist Barry "JAH LIVE" Thomas.
Full Biography – DJ and Production:
Nick Howard began to take an interest in music at a very early age, taking his first piano lessons at the age of 4. This lead to the study of various instruments, throughout his school days, including the recorder, clarinet, and alto saxophone. At the age of 14, Nick decided to trade in his saxophone for an electric guitar.
At 16 years old, Nick started taking an interest in dance music, and was captivated by the sound of early Drum and Bass/Jungle, listening to such artists as LTJ Bukem and Fabio. Further exploration into the world of dance music lead to Nick putting down his guitar buying his first turntables. The next few years were spent DJing at home, making almost daily trips to the local record store.
At 20, Nick found himself heavily involved in the management of a local underground music station (N-Joi FM ). Nick also hosted a weekly Drum and Bass show where he first unleashed his musical productions on the world. At this time, Nick was regularly playing local club nights and private parties.
In 2001 Nick released his first 12" single which managed a 4/5 rating in "DJ mag".
In 2004 Nick undertook a degree at the Academy of Contemporary Music, Surrey.
Whilst studying at ACM, Nick took on a role at Ministry of Sound, London, as a label assistant for Incentive records. During this period, Nick gained invaluable experience working in music industry. Nick found himself answering directly to a legendary figure, Nick Halkes founder of XL recordings, and A&R legend to the Dance act "The Prodigy". Nick Halkes is now head of dance music at EMI UK. This position also lead to Nick hosting a show of Ministry of Sound radio, and playing a set in the legendry Ministry of Sound club, London.
After his 9 month period at Ministry of Sound, Nick went on to work for a Distribution Company in Hackney. His position at PDC was A&R manager, responsible for all urban artists at PDC.
Nick left this role and went fully self employed in 2005, launching his own media company Flexible Media Ltd.
In March 2006 Nick attended the winter music conference in Miami, as representative to Flexible Media. This proved to be a productive trip and Nick managed to play DJ sets at a number of venues in Miami's exclusive "South beach" district.
On returning from the WMC, Miami, Nick relocated his business to Bristol. Nick concentrated his efforts on working with a number of Bristol based artists, and bands. A highlight of 2006 was working and recording with legendary reggae guitarist, the late, Barry "Jah Live" Thomas.2007 saw the return of Nick to Miami's winter music conference, where he played DJ sets at the Ultra music festival, Therapy sessions Miami, and the Beatport remix hotel event.
2008 proved to be a productive year for Nick, as he expanded his recording studio, moving into a larger premise. December 2008 Saw Nick in his first official acting role in the new Warner Brothers Music video for the award winning band "Pendulum". Nick also found himself booked as a warm up DJ in the Bristol leg of the UK tour for Blue's Simon Webbe. Nick was also booked to warm up for chart topping Dance act, H20 on New Year's Eve, 2008.
2009 sees Nick busy at work in his Hampshire studio on various production projects. Nick Has found himself working with a young band called the "yearner babies", as part of their road crew, Nick has been touring the UK festivals with main stage slots, booked at some of the largest summer gatherings, including the Secret Garden Party, Guilfest, Beach Break Live, and Lounge on the farm. Nick is currently in the studio working on a project with the lead singer of the yearner babies. Other recent projects include a series of remixes for Way out west singer and Polygram artist, "Taja". A remix project for US Dance Diva "Jacinta" is currently receiving plays across the states, and is set for release on Jacinta's label. Nick is currently working on Dubstep, Drum and Bass, Rock, Indie and other experimental tracks, which will soon be unleashed on the world.
