The Rancors

Bio auf Deutsch:
Rancor bedeutet so viel wie Wut, Groll. Der Bandname ist an ein gar widerliches Getier aus den alten Star Wars Folgen angelehnt und ein Geistesblitz des ersten Schlagzeugers Chris. Gegründet hat sich die Band 1998 bei einem Ska Konzert in der Nähe von München. Zusammengefunden haben sich Flo an der Gitarre(ehm. No Comply), Oli Gesang (ehm. SHG), Strapsi am Bass und Chris am Schlagzeug, die zuvor passive Musikliebhaber waren. Schlagzeug gabs keins, so wurde vorerst auf einem Spülbecken getrommelt, was aber egal war, da Chris noch nicht spielen konnte. Anfangs wurde die Band, welche sich einfach als Punkband sah, gerne in die Oi! Ecke gestellt, was wohl am optischen Erscheinungsbild von 2 Skins und 2 Punks lag, und dem Umstand, dass die Musikanten noch nicht besonders schnell spielen konnten. Trotzdem reihte sich schnell eine Fangemeinde um sie, die vor allen Freude an der teilweise extravaganten, perversen Bühnenshow fand. Schließlich wurde eine Single veröffentlicht mit dem aufregenden Titel "The Rancors". 2004 war erst mal die Luft raus, da Chris sich entschloss sich anderweitig zu verwirklichen. Doch glücklicherweise erbarmte sich Joe(Wilde 13, Horrorcombo) die Trommeln zu übernehmen. Nach kurzer Dauer konnte die Kapelle schnell und langsam spielen und erweiterte ihre Fangemeinde. Die erste LP/CD, mit dem Titel "weg", wurde aufgenommen. Neben den Auftritten auf Hochzeiten, Geburtstagen und Vereinsfesten spielten sie schon mit Rawside, Los Fastidios, the Lurkers, Klasse Kriminale und ähnlichen Vertreterinnen der Punkgilde zusammen. Der musikalische Stil lässt sich gut unter dem Begriff Punkrock zusammenfassen. Mal HC -Punk, mal mehr 77, aber auch klassischer D-Punk. Die Texte handelten Anfangs über Alltagssituationen, wie dass die Stammkneipe zumacht, die Gesellschaft mit ihrem Konsumterror nervt, oder dass die Nachbarin nicht auf nen Kaffee vorbeikommt. In den letzten Jahren wurden die Texte zusehends politischer und befassen sich auch mit den leider immer wieder aktuellen Problemen wie Rassismus, Faschismus, Tierrechte oder Homophobie, wobei auch die humoristische Seite nach wie vor nicht zu kurz kommt. Seit 2009 ist Andi, ebenfalls an der Gitarre (ehm Lake Pussy, Violent nuns, Ready steady die), vollwertiges Mitglied und erfreut sich an den Vorzügen der Rancorszugehörigkeit. 2010 soll eine neue Scheibe aufgenommen und natürlich viele Konzerte gespielt werden. Bio in English:
Rancor means anger or a grudge. The band's name comes
from a nasty creature from an old Star Wars film and was a
flash of genius from the first drummer Chris.
The band formed in 1998 at a ska concert near Munich.
Guitarist Flo (formerly No Comply), Oli the singer (formerly
SHG) met up with Strapsi on the bass and Chris the drummer
who had previously "just" been music fans. At first
there was no drum kit, so we used an old metal sink instead
which was OK as Chris hadn't learned to play yet.
At the beginning the Rancors saw themselves as a
simple punk band that saw itself in the Oi scene. That was
probably due to their appearance, two punks and two skins
and the fact that the musicians didn't play that fast.
Despite that a fan base quickly grew up, particularly in
love with the extravagant, even perverse stage show.
A single was produced with the exciting name, „The Rancors" and then 2004 things were a bit deflated when
Chris decided to leave the band to develop in a new
direction.
Luckily though, Joe (Wilde 13, Horrorcombo) had it in his
heart to take over the drums. Within a short space of time
the group was playing slow and faster music and the fan base
grew. A first LP /CD with the title "weg" was recorded.
Alongside appearances at weddings, birthdays and parties,
The Rancors played alongside established punk bands such as
Rawside, Los Fastidios, the Lurkers, and Klasse Kriminelle.
Meanwhile the music style is well covered by the term punkrock.
Sometimes HC-Punk, sometimes a bit more "77", but also classic German punk.
Originally the lyrics were about everyday situations, a
local pub that was closing, a society that terrorises us to
consume, the neighbour that fails to come round for a coffee. More recently the lyrics have become noticeably more political and deal with the sadly ever present problems of
racism, fascism, abuse of animals or homophobia, though as
always, there is plenty of humour.
In 2009 Andi on guitars (formerly Lake Pussy, Violent nuns, Ready steady die), became a full band member and is happy to be part of The Rancors. In 2010 the band plans to record a new album and of course, play a lot of concerts.
