Swedish, Chilean born Monica Ramos is definitely not a
traditional harpist. She is a modern artist who is tearing down
traditional barriers, a harp virtuoso who has won the praise of
both critics and public all over the world for her brilliant collection
of compositions and interpretations. With several hundred
thousand albums sold in over forty countries so far, she is
definitely one of the most successful and extraordinary harpists
in the world. Both she and her producer Per Andreasson have
changed the traditional associations people normally get with
this ancient instrument - the classical harp.

Myspace Layouts - Myspace Editor
"Moai" is Monica's follow up to "Wind
from the sea" and with more than 250 000 albums sold
in over 40 countries, it's her most successful album so
far. It's been praised all over the world for its unique
compositions and some time after its release it was
nominated one of the top ten on a US billboard list.
Monica and Per is here taking this new concept one step
further and creates a fresh and compelling sound full of
captivating beats and mellow ambience. All tracks on the
album are composed by Per and the lyrics are written by
Monica. On some tracks, like "Eternidad (The eternity)",
Monica is also accompanied by her brother
Alvaro Covarrubias, a very talented classical guitarist.

Behind That Light
"Behind that light", released in 2001, is the first album
where Monica has solely composed all music and lyrics
herself, with the exception of two tracks. With "Behind that
light" (BTL) Monica is proving what an experienced,
qualified and skilled artist she is. The album itself is very
different from the two previous ones, for obvious reasons
perhaps. Her classical background is for instance
shining through in her compositions on some tracks.
On BTL Monica is giving the harp a lot more space and
her deepest thoughts and feelings have influenced the
lyrics. There is a lot more song on the album as well
which also differs from the previous ones. The most
stunning thing perhaps is that no song is the other alike.
The album can not fit into any specific category of music.
But it is difficult to say what other genre it has landed in
as the music itself is so unique. The tracks span from
rhythmic melodies like "Para un angelito" and "Ya te vas"
to pure classical pieces like the beautiful "Creo" and "Mami". The same year BTL was released it was nominated ninth place in the US based New Age Voice Magazine.
In some countries a remixed bonus track of Para un angelito is included, created by the remix specialist DezroK. Another track from this remix is also available on Buddhabar Sun by Claude Challe.
Behind that light was Monica's introduction to being a composer and we can expect to see a lot more interesting stuff coming from this talented artist in the future
