Ragnhild Furebotten is an interpreter and communicator of the folk music of Northern Norway, and is one of few folk musicians from this part of the country. She is well known as a musician, composer, and performing fiddler first and foremost as a member of the group Majorstuen. Ragnhild finished her education at the Norwegian Music Acadamy in 2004 and has since then been working as a musician in "Culture in Troms" and as a freelance musician both in Norway an abroad.
Ragnhild Furebotten (b. 1979) is one of the rising stars of the Norwegian traditional music scene, which is currently enjoying a resurgence in popularity. As a member of the acclaimed fiddle ensemble Majorstuen she won a Norwegian Grammy Award in 2003, while in recent years her solo projects have showcased her talents as a composer and arranger.
Furebotten chooses her fellow musicians carefully, aiming for the mix of personality and talent that creates those unexpected, magical moments in performance. The repertoire is found in Ragnhild's music creation and consists of traditional tunes from Northern Norway, where she origins from, and her own compositions.
"Ragnhild is a carrier of tradition with an element of strong modern way of thinking. Intensity, virtuosity and musical nerve characterizes her musical expression." Arvid Hanssen-Jury
"Furebotten has a great command of tone, light dancing lift and a communicative delight in playing the fiddle" Andrew Cronshaw in fRoots
"After last year's release of the trio's debut record "Finally Waltz" (2007)-which reaped brilliant reviews across the line and was nominated for a Norwegian Grammy in the folk category- they have become associated with folk music at its most vibrant: emotionally arresting, dynamic, energetic and always a special experience live." Christian Lysvåg
