Raggabalder Riddim Rebels is Norway's premier dancehall reggae soundsystem, having locked down capitol Oslo and the rest of the country for nearly 10 years. Raggabalder comes from the small town Bodø in the north of Norway. This is where Selecta Joddski and MC Jan Steezy first were turned on to the sound of Hardcore Ragga in the early 90's. Homemade tapes with the likes of Ninjaman and Shabba Ranks as well as Greensleeves' "Ragga Ragga Ragga"-series can be credited for turning the two onto Jamaican dancehall. The newest addition to the sound is Dj Drahpaa, oringinally of small bikertown Mosjøen, now controlling the slightly bigger city of Trondheim. He's their minister of technology, and heavyweight big tune supplier amongst other things.

Since they started in 2001 Raggabalder have released 4 mixtapes, played all over Norway numerous times, as well as several appearances in Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Czech Republic, Germany and Poland. Their regular gig at Oslo club Living Room earned them a Club Of The Year Award for 2004. Raggabalder have hosted parties or worked with the likes of YT, Zoro, Alozade, Morgan Heritage, Beenie Man, Cutty Ranks and of course Ill Inspecta and Germaica. They've also opened for acts like Buju Banton, Tanya Stephens, and just about every other big artist passing through Oslo.

Selecta Joddski is also known as one of the godfathers of Norwegian rap, as he helped pioneer it with Tungtvann around the turn of the millennium. 500 shows, 4 landmark CDs, 3 EPs, a DVD and most recently a Best Of Collection has made Tungtvann one of Norway’s most respected and influential groups. Jan Steezy performed as a sidekick in this now retired outfit.

Joddski/Jørg-1 is continuing his recording career and will now focus more on the dancehall side of his material. Check out www.myspace.com/joddski to listen chunes.

A Raggabalder party consists of every aspect of Jamaican Music. although the Northern Norwegians have a special fondness for bashment vibes and 90's rudeboy ragga, you're likely to catch everything from Studio 1 classics and Dennis Brown evergreens via 80's rub-a-dub straight up to the newest remixes, riddims and dubplates.

Aint no party like a Raggabalder party…. or as we say in Norwegian:

GAUPA ET IKKJE BRØDSKIV!!!
