Racer X is a U.S. heavy metal band formed in 1984 in Los Angeles, California. The name is both a reference to a character in Speed Racer, and the speed that was an integral part of their music. Virtuosic, neoclassical guitar playing was the main focus of their style. The group was founded by guitarist Paul Gilbert, who later went on to achieve great success with the multi-platinum-selling hard rock band, Mr Big. These days the band members are involved in various projects but still work together on occasion and if you're lucky you might be able to catch a show. Paul Gilbert has a solo career (check out his page here on MySpace); Jeff Martin has just released a solo cd, and plays drums for Paul sometimes; John Alderete is the bassist for the band Mars Volta; and Scott Travis has a steady gig with one of the greatest metal bands ever.Judas Priest.
