WHAT IS PUNKS ALL ABOUT THEN?

Initially conceived as a way for Stanton Warriors to release their own edits of the hottest tracks around, Punks is now a fully-fledged label in its own right, selling more units consistently than any other breakbeat imprint.

iDJ GOES WILD ABOUT 'GET WILD' IN THE LATEST MAG

PUNKS016 - Stanton Warriors feat Big Daddy Kane - 'Get Wild'

'Hot on the heels of their second stunning 'Remixed' package, the Stanton Warriors are finally ready to drop their long, long, LONG-awaited collaboration with stone cold hip hop legend Big Daddy Kane, the frankly huge 'Get Wild'.

First heard in prototype form on the Warriors' award-winnng 'Stanton Sessions Vol 2' mix over two years ago, the track has since undergone something of a reworking to keep if fresh for the floors of 2008. And as if that wasn't enough, Dom and Mark have enlisted a suitably stellar cast of remixers to bring you a bumper 2x12" package with something for deejays of all persuasions.

First up is the boys' own 'Bounce Mix', which sees a steady, club-shaking beat unfurl with wicked switches and low-down 808 bass before cleverly working in melodic, 80s-inspired strings reminiscent of Metro Area and, of course, Kane's vocal. The mix then races through hyperactive synths and basswork before finishing in superb heads-down fashion, sure to both surprise and delight listeners in equal measure.

Taking things in a different direction entirely, The Nextmen lace up a thunderous halftime dubstep beat with atonal LFO'd bass and snatches of the original strings, before again dropping the vocal to devastating effect. Peaking through deft cut-up sections and speaker-punishing bass switches, this mix straddles any number of genres with ease - no less than you expect from these guys, really.

Next up, Deekline & Ed Solo show exactly why they're such hot property at the moment, fixing a fresh vocal sample to a crunchy, typically Miami-inspired beat, then pairing it with hip-wiggling synth hits. The mix keeps the bass-heavy vibe throughout, but with enough change-ups and drops to keep the floor locked all the way to the outro.

Finally, the inimitable Bassbin Twins deliver a mix best described as 'truly unique'. A rolling old-skool break and menacing percussion introduces proceedings, before the bass drops and all hell breaks loose. With a beat riding somewhere between breaks and dubstep and some of the toughest production around, this remix pulverises the floor until a brief respite arrives via the form of a slowed-down, hip-hop breakdown. Deploying the vocals over a beat Timbaland would be proud of, the mix then switches back to full speed once more and carries us home in breathless fashion.

This is one of the biggest tracks, vocalists and remix packages of 2008 - don't sleep!'

PUNKS015 - Stanton Warriors Remixed Vol.2 - Blaze (Baobinga & ID Mix) / Still Here (Baron Remix)

'Having rolled both clubs and radio stations worldwide with their last 'Remixed' collection, Stanton Warriors have decided once again to let some of the most exciting production outfits working today loose on two more tracks from their debut LP, 'Lost Files'.

First up, Bmore/techno/hipster genre pirates Baobinga & ID go to work on 'Blaze'. Retaining the awesome vocal from sometime Blak Twang collaborator Jahmali, they twist the original reggae vibe into a rugged sub-bass-fuelled monster with the most shuffle-heavy of beats flying at you from all angles. To add the finishing touch, the Stantons themselves lend their editing magic to proceedings and lock the groove down hard, making this an unmissable mix for DJs of all genres.

Next, drum n bass supremo Baron lends his deft production touch to one of the best-loved Stanton Warriors records, 'Still Here'. Running Eska's stunning vocal performance over a slick, synth-heavy beat, he lets the track ebb and flow in all the right places, building to a climax that delivers just like you hoped it would.

Two killer remixes from two ends of the beats spectrum - both essentials for the collection. Next up on Punks, the Stantons themselves will return with their eagerly-anticipated Big Daddy Kane hook-up 'Get Wild'. hold tight.'

""Breaks" Forums are currently filled with messages complaining of a lack of good songs and breakbeat labels shift towards house or electro. For my part, although I admit readily that it is increasingly difficult to find good pieces of "nuskool", I've recently received many tracks that are very good, as evidenced by this new remix by Mancunians, Baobinga and ID.

Released on the label Punks, their remix of the tune "Blaze" by the Stanton Warriors is a hymn to breakbeat origins. Bass sound "oldschool jungle", the rhythm is just one of the most sampled breakbeats in the history of this style, all carefully arranged. Add the voice of Jahmali, and you have one of the best pieces break beat in recent months

I haven't played it out yet, but I bet it will hurt the speakers!"
