PURE SCIENCE biog //
Born in the North of London at the back-end of 72, and raised among a music-loving family. Phivos (Phoebos) soon took on the love off all things musical. By the time he was eleven years old, his thang was the synth. @ 14 he was playing in a couple of Bands as a Keyboard player, Hand To Mouth and Le Maison de Deiux being the most gig'd playing in London venues such as Boston Arms, The Flag, Old Bull Arts etcAbout a year later he worked as a Programer/Arranger with Miss France 1989 on a French label. Also around this time was performing Live P.A's @ some North London Based Acid house Parties with Ty Holden (ex Bassist from Hand to Mouth). Aged fifteen he had already started work as a tape op, in a studio run by Pirate radio outfit, Lightening FM. In return for Phivos busting his balls for zilch money. The guys there would dash him free studio time. So most nights, he would lock himself into the studio. Just him, a sleeping bag and one of those horrid Pot Noodles. The sounds that Phivos created, earned him the tag, the Scientist. During that time, Lightening were putting on underground parties for the likes of Bryan G and Jumping Jack Frost. From Phivos checking out those early 88/89 warehouse parties, it cemented his love for the amazing, Detroit Techno and Chicago House being created during that time-frame.
As a very musically-eager teenager, his personal tastes became much more electronic. Being influenced by groups such as, Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, John Foxx, Ultravox and Japan. Phivos by now, owned a basic collection of analog synthesizers and drum machines. He was also working, at gigs as a keyboard player. (He was on his way). At venues such as the Fridge in Brixton, (Passion 90). Phivos would play alongside the likes of Break beat pioneers, Shut Up and Dance. It was here that record label bods from GTI Records (now Kickin) heard the Scientist at play. They in turn linked up a meeting between the Scientist and up-coming Jungle Don, Dj Hype. Between them, creating luge tracks such as, The Exorcist, The Bee and Kick Squad (Champion Sound). Phivos would continue to use the tag the Scientist, alongside others such as, Audio Illusion and Pure Science.
With much support from Londons Pirates, such as Fantasy FM. The Exorcist reached number One in the Dance charts. And was voted top track by KISS FM, (who had just recently been legalised). The Scientist started to tour Europe, doing live gigs that smashed up the raves and clubs. During the years 90/91 it wasnt often, that the Scientist wasnt being cooed over in the press. Never one to follow, the straight line, the Scientist worked freelance with alternative artists such as, Terry Hall, Malcolm McLaren and Mica Paris. (To name-drop, but a few). Soon, the artist couldnt ignore his musical metamorphosis any longer. The name the Scientist was dropped, to be replaced by his present concept, Pure Science. He knew he had to keep on producing the goods if he wanted to make music his life. So, in 96 Pure Science released the monster groove track, Africa, on Rehab via Zoom records. Later in 97, he went onto Lunar Tunes, (Eddie Richards label). Where Pure Science released works under the monikers of, SCI-Fi and the de-Ranger collaborations with Evil Eddie. 98 saw Pure Science earn a label distribution deal with Prime, for worldwide coverage. It was the same year that he won, Muzik mags Best new Dj award. This led to Pure Science becoming proper flavour internationally. He was in much demand now, while still holding down a residency at the club, Fabric in London.
In between playing his home-produced beats to thousands, sleeping in different hotels and losing weight. Pure Science was still releasing product. On various labels, like Euka-House, the End label and P.S. Communications. He has a new sister label created, B+Positive, (which has two releases by Croation producer Davor, raah). Not forgetting a Pure Science album on the Fabric imprint.

The year 2006 saw the man Pure Science with a release on Absurd Recordings out of L.A. (It also featured an Eddie Richards mix). Hes also had product out on new German Label with Richard Grey, shakin-vibes.de. Expect, a Chilled, Ambient-Dub Album for CD release only, from Pure Science, alongside a mix Album of his many recorded, live sets.
Distribution is now being looked after by zaudio.co.uk and saw a release on B+positive

Pure Science on the Groove
I don't have a need for any x-tra's for my live sets, as I take all I need, with me. All I need then is a space next to the Decks, a mixer for a Laptop, Midi controller, and Mini compressor. (Dont forget the mouse-mat!). A decent monitor set at head height, (on a stand please!) 1 x power socket, (I take a 110v power adaptor with me, when I do the States and stuff). So really, I can play anywhere, on a beach, on a Boat, at a Club or Warehouse, anywhere! I can produce grooves for up to five hours, in my sets. (My set up time is only ten minutes!) Im not one of those bods thatll ask for a thousand bottles of Evian to be poured into my bath. But, the Hotel must, be minimum 3 stars, standard! Oh, and I enjoy my Greens, much Pure Science o8
