Bio

While the rest of the industry is trying to save its stocks, Pottz is like a hedgefund, a good investment and a guaranteed success for the future. Bronx native, Pottz’ fervor for music developed at a young age, recognizing his strong interest in music and ability to rap. In 1995, Pottz formed a musical amalgamation with his two childhood friends, T.M. and Charlie “Bronx” Manson. Together, they performed around their neighborhood of the North Bronx, with Pottz as the DJ and TM and Charlie as the rappers. The three were unstoppable.

In 1997, Pottz suffered what would become one of the most profound impacts on his life: tragedy. His best friend and brother-figure Charlie “Bronx” Manson, the ambition and lifeline of the trio, passed away. Rather than giving into sadness and disbanding the group that was only just beginning, Pottz decided that achieving success would be a testament to the positive and inspirational spirit of Charlie, and found motivation to move on with music. Pottz took on the role of the creative leader, with the help of his friends T.M. and Supa “Supe” Mizzy, and formed his own production company, Thinkin Big Productions. Soon after, he executive produced and released his first mix tape, Beatz, Rhymez, Etc. to a very positive response from peers and throughout his neighborhood. The album contained 12 tracks, 10 songs of which were co-written and produced by Pottz and two tracks that were solely instrumentals, for the purpose of allowing others who held a musical gift to express themselves.

Subsequently, Pottz decided to document the journey of his career with, Putting in That Work and The Grind, which he felt would authenticate and offer proof of his conviction to his work. The film trails Pottz on his pursuit of distributing his CD while offering free downloads of the two mix tapes, Beatz, Rhymez, Etc. and his second release, Off the Muscle.

Off the Muscle was the follow-up mix tape to Beats, Rhymes, Etc. Pottz not only took to his native streets of the Bronx to distribute his album, he also built a strong following in Miami, Florida. After receiving feedback, Pottz tactically planned his agenda to build a buzz and gain recognition by his prospective customers and followers.

Pottz’ music draws on his ubiquitous Jamaican roots, which in turn ignites his creativity and originality to generate enlightening, clever, and edgy sounds, which were warmly welcomed in the south. Over the years, Pottz has produced a total of 300 tracks with a wide range of production beats, so diverse that no two beats sound alike, bringing out the best in hip-hop and R&B artists on both coasts, as well as the dirty South and the Midwest. His unique technique (he seldom samples other songs) and musical bravado speaks to other writers, making it easy for other artists to create songs.

Pottz’ strong work ethic and inexorable beats and rhymes lead to recognition from The International Producers Association, when he was awarded with the prestigious “Beat Battle Champion” title. The following week, he was given the opportunity to perform in front of several hundred people, where he showcased his music on records like The Sound of Hunger and Ten.10 Wins, a compilation of ten songs and ten free instrumentals.

Rather than directly soliciting the executives at record labels, Pottz has advantageously decided to take a road less traveled, to build a buzz surrounding his music by utilizing methods of merchandising, traditional marketing, and viral marketing as a foundation. Instead of restricting himself to beats and hooks, he decided to widen his musical landscape and set out to become a one-stop-shop for music, to sell whole songs to other rappers and musicians, as apposed to just selling the instrumentals.

Pottz’ love for creating a mélange of 80’s and 90’s hip hop has resulted in 80’s Baby, an album that carefully blends old school tracks like Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean and Billy Joel’s Longest Time with Pottz’ distinguishing rapping. Pottz’ intention was to blend older music with younger topics, to which both an older and younger generation can relate. “My music is fun, real, very honest, and intelligent, with a lot of controversial word-play,” Pottz says.

Aside from writing, producing, and arranging three albums worth of solo material, Pottz is a rapper, musician, entrepreneur, and businessman, with many other endeavors in sight. But most of all he is a fan of music. “I want to create timeless and classic music,” says Pottz. “Music that will touch people, provokes thoughts, and will inspire a new generation to think big.”
