Meet Portrait: Michael Angelo Saulsberry, Phillip Johnson, Eric Kirkland and Irving Washington III.Four incredible voices whose talents combined burst on the music scene in 1992 as one of the world’s smoothest vocal groups in the music industry.

Their first self entitled album "PORTRAIT" shocked the entire industry with there first single "Here We Go Again" went straight to the top of the charts knocking off Whitney Houston’s "I Will Always Love You" from the Body Guard Soundtrack, which lasted an incredible 20 weeks on the charts! Portrait then followed up with singles such as "Honey Dip and "Day by Day" which were top ten hits and gained the four man group Platinum status! Portrait’s unique musical sound earned tremendous respect from the hip hop community becoming the first R&B group featured in Source Magazine a hip hop based publication. Portrait could be seen touring with their peers Silk, Shai, Boyz II Men and Jodeci, and also hip hop groups such as The Pharcyde and A Tribe Called Quest. Portrait's second release "All that Matters" launched hits such as "I Can Call You" and the remake of the Bee Gees "How Deep is Your Love” which took the group to international status with performances in countries such as LONDON, FRANCE, SPAIN, GERMANY, KOREA, THAILAND, AUSTRALIA, HOLLAND, AMSTERDAM. "How Deep Is Your Love” was an acapella and acoustic guitar version which has earned its own spot in karaoke machines around the world. Portrait has been Grammy nominated for best dual or vocal performance on Quincy Jones’ "Jook Joint” album and also winning a Day Time Emmy award for performing the song “Momentum” in a Chrysler commercial. Portrait also won ASCAP song writer awards and had performances on 10 major movie soundtracks, but is still considered the most under-rated R&B group on the music scene in the 90's. Long term fans are still fascinated with Portrait’s classic smooth vocal style and harmony. Real music is something that can not be replaced or duplicated and for R&B lover’s Portrait has captured this and will forever remain the OG’s on the music scene

Portrait is heavily influenced by the greats: HeatWave ,Stevie Wonder, Steely Dan, Earth Wind & Fire, Roy Ayers, The Brothers Johnson, and every other vocal group that performed from the heart

When you think of Portrait think of them as a combination of Hip Hop Jazz splashed with a flavor of polyphonic vocals.It's the New Jack Swing with a twist!



MICHAEL ANGELO



Michael Angelo Saulsberry is not just a common household name. As the writer, producer and member of the Legendary R&B group PORTRAIT, Micheal Angelo possesses a beautiful gift of music that's been shared throughout the world. Michael Angelo's passion is music and production, and he has an infinite list of artists and musicians that he has written and produced for over the years.



IRVING WASHINGTON III



Irving Washington III, lead singer of the Legendary R&B group PORTRAIT, is a Rhode Island native by way of California.

Music is definitely Irv's passion and he enjoys networking with others. Irv is influenced by the greats: Stevie Wonder, Heatwave, EWF, Kool and the Gang, Luther Vandross, Sun, GAP Band, Lakeside, Cameo, Con Funk Shun, LTD, Jeffery Osborne, Howard Hewitt, Rick James, the whole funk band era.



ERIC KIRKLAND



Eric Kirkland, lead singer of the Legendary R&B group Portrait, is heavily motivated by family. Eric's family is the most important thing in this life to him, and he makes it a point to ensure that he spends a great deal of time with them.



Eric's interests include: Music, Writting, Photography, Art, and Kung Fu! But.his favorite things are cooking,music,and travel!

Eric lives by the creed: "Conduct yourself in this life as if you were to live forever,but prepare for eternity as if you have to die tomorrow."



A true musician at heart, Eric state's that, "Music is key. I'd die without music.! Being a music producer helps me to see that very clearly! I love all kinds of music, I seem to listen to my changing mood and the music follows me wherever I go."



Eric also has a passion for movies ranging from Horror, Sci-Fi, and Action,and he does enjoy a good love story from time to time, as well as, Old Black &; White movies too!
