"FEBBRE DEL DISCOTHEQUE/THE OLD WALKING MAN"

Stand by for the most audaciously bonkers outing of the week: one of those irreverent barrages which cares not for trends but enlists knowledge of great musical styles and weaves it into a bollock-blasting new whole which builds on the fun-packed template set by their 'Robot Love' debut. After a long, clanging intro the minimal electronic patter kicks in before they take it to the disco with robot MC vocals. 'The Old Walking Man' is the killer: riding a juggernaut rockabilly groove splattered with harmonica, demented Laughing Policeman cackling and further sonic insanity which reminds me of Captain Beefheart in its unhinged, blues-drenched spirit. As it goes on you realise you're experiencing a truly out there work of art and having the time of your life.

POPULAR TYRE 'EAST END AFTER-HOUR BLUES

‘East End After-Hours Blues’ is camp-fire-Blues that manages to sound distantly-ancient and bang up-to-date at the same time. But if you’re thinking that Popular Tyre are a Blues band, think again, depending on which of their tracks you listen to, you could get Rock, Folk or even Electro like on their new single ‘Robot Love’. -

POPULAR TYRE 'FEBBRE DEL DISCOTHEQUE/THE OLD WALKING MAN'

(EAT SOME REAL)

Something is stirring in Italy once more. Dormant creatively far too long, there has been a spate of excellent releases from the land of pasta. This two hander is no exception. The main cut 'Febbre Del Discotheque' is astonishingly good and very original. Robotic vocals (almost) ravey waveforms and pure driving dancefloor energy propel this. I want to hear more from these guys, I'm a little bit in love with them already.BILL BREWSTER - DJ MAGAZINE

Andrew Weatherall - ‘Robot Love is doing the business big time – I played it at all 3 gigs weekend before last, and it went down a storm. This will stay firmly in the box’

Laurent Garnier - "Robot Love - You fat mother fucker!! Full support - Will play this in the main room and radio"

Rad Rice - ‘Both tracks will definetly find their way into my sets’

Billy Nasty - ‘I will be playing this at most of my gigs, good solid sound’

Dave Clarke - ‘Like it and will play’

Squarepusher - 'I want one of those!'

Crispin Dior - ‘Like this lots’

Keith Tenniswood - ‘Good solid track’

Kris Needs - ‘Very good, will review’

Popular Tyre 'Robot Love / I Wanna Be Ignored'

(Eat Some Real)

Older readers may remember Slack's 'Painkiller' being one of the heavy duty

milestones in the early Sabres Of Paradise canon. Now he's back, in

distinctly electro-mode with the obligatory treated vocal and metallic

hump-groove conjuring images of the robotic bell-end splitting its bolts and

applying a rampant flame-thrower to the nuts. The flip's 'I Wanna Be

Ignored' mines a deeper, more human, trough of emotional darkness.

But why Popular Tyre?

Popular Tyre - Robot Love EP

Here is this week's weird one, another mysterious 10". Popular Tyre are, it seems two blokes who 'Just Want To Get Drunk And Sing' (as it says on the run out groove). It sounds like they can do more than that by the two tracks here. "Robot Love" is a very heavy dark electro house number with a fantastic sub bass, huge synth stab and sleazy vocals, definitely a winner for the druggy end of clubland. Over on side-B we have "I Wanna Be Ignored" which goes off on a bit of a downbeat / Balearic tip, nice easy groove softly sung vocals (again sleaze is the key) in the latter half the track involves some nifty synth work, nice guitar and a bit of vocoder action for good measure. Very good indeed.

POPULAR TYRE : Robot Love EP

EAT SOME REAL RECORDINGS 10"

The is the first release for Eat Some Real Recordings and what a start! The A side 'Robot Love' is a massive, crunchy electro houser with a killer bassline and should not be overlooked! The B side is no slouch either but the A side is the one for sure.
