FROM URB MAGAZINE 2008
written by Ryan E. Rodriguez Enlightened (Black Panther movement), and the Un (Hyphy movement). The Bay is a chem-lab of talkers and rockers, churning confectionary delights for every tooth. When the mad flyentist mixed realist perspective with satirical wit, a smoke-puff bore Poach Stevens. Every MC was brought screaming and gooey into hard luck beginnings, it's the narration that sets them apart. Poach is heavy struggle funneled through the wit and comedic content of a man driven by "fuck-it" mantras. Poking fun at his plight, Stevens is not bogged and muddled by over consciousness or forced humor as so many other niche-hunters, its genuine chuckle-mongering from a story-teller extraordinaire. Tight production homies, and credits for opening RZA, Ghostface, De La Soul, and others, don't feel bad for digging him, you're not alone. Poach Stevens has opened for the RZA, Ghostface Killa, San Quinn, Company Flow and De La Soul, and has toured with the Handsome Boy Modeling School and was showcased along side the likes of Rass Kass, Eminem, Talib Kweli, Souls of Mischief, Thurstin' Howel the 3rd to name a few on the Lyricist Lounge tour. He has done frequent work with the Rondo Brothers, his vocal talents and songs used in commercials, movies and video games. He recently has worked on projects as both vocalist and producer with Bay Area heavy hitters J Stalin, Kaz Kyzah, Stevie Joe, Ike Dola (Keak Da Sneak's Farm Boyz) Tower, Ashkon, PZ and (Nas and Commons DJ) DJ Fresh.
