+Kid was born out of a writing exercise between two brothers: Andre and Richard Papanicolaou. Initially an informal pass-time to write songs and later jam them out, +Kid quickly became a more focused project when, to the urging of friends and family, the fast-growing backlog of songs was committed to record as a collection of demos handed out to friends and at shows. Already in several Montreal-based bands, Andre (M.Mono, André, Les Chiens) teamed up with his multi-instrumentalist brother, Richard, to finalize the songs and perform them as +Kid, with the help of Corinne Montpetit (Camionnette) on bass, Guillaume Chartrain (Chambre, M.Mono) on guitar, and Maxime Philibert (André) on guitar and keyboards. The collection of 13 new original songs, which draws on their musical influences ranging from The Beatles to The Pixies and beyond, has been assembled on the first +Kid album, entirely self-produced and was released January 30th, 2007 in Canada. A tip of the hat to 1960s sound esthetics, the recording sessions for the album were entirely self-produced in the Papanicolaous home studio, in the spirit of the Do It Yourself ethic, creating a sound unique to +Kid. "A must" Fred Rioux - 98,5 FM - Montreal, QC - January 29 2007 “…13 solid tracks… Both dreamy and roving, the producing is strangely reminiscent of The Stills in their early days, with an added salutary lightness to it. Very, very, very promising. ” Kathleen Lavoie - LE SOLEIL – Québec, QC - January 27 2007 “…a very well produced debut album showing British pop influences paired with modernism reminiscent of The Stills. In short, music that is both refined and sweet…” Olivier Robillard-Laveaux - VOIR – Montréal, QC - January 25 2007 www.plus-kid.com
