Plain Fade's (Helsinki/Tampere, Finland) music is a mixture of colossal melodies, pompous grandeur, delicate minimalism and raw intensity. Influences range from ambient to hc punk rock, from baroque to postmodern, and beyond.
Anthropogonia-album features an ambitious collaboration with the Helsinki-based choir WiOL led by choir conductor-mezzosoprano Jutta Seppinen. Music written and arranged especially for the band and a 50-voice mixed choir by Juho Koivuaho and Jussi Lehtinen is a unique combination of experimental rock and contemporary classical music challenging barriers between these genres and the "high" and "low" styles. The libretto in Ancient Greek is written by Ilmari Kavén and also italian, latin and english can be heard on the songs. The album cover paintings and photography are done by artist Oskari Tolonen (also a band member on percussion and synthesizers). Anthropogonia is previously performed by Plain Fade and WiOL in two Helsinki concerts (Nosturi and Stoa the Cultural Centre of Eastern Helsinki) in November 2009 and the album will be released through Verdura Records in spring 2011.
Before Plain Fade has released two full-length albums: Lies, Sanctions and Cruise Missiles (Punos Sound 2005) and Aure (Punos Sound 2006). Over the years Plain Fade has performed with some respected alternative music acts (such as Cult of Luna (SWE), Pedigree (EST), Callisto, Magyar Posse, Kuusumun Profeetta, Tuvalu, Sydän Sydän, Sara, Disco Ensemble) though always avoiding the wider recognition. Plain Fade's music has also been featured on some independent films, theatres and compilation albums in the United States and Russia.
Wiipurilaisen Osakunnan Laulajat (WiOL, based 1930) from Helsinki, Finland is an active mixed choir well-known for their wide repertoire from medieval music to first public performances of new contemporary choir compositions. Especially with the current conductor Jutta Seppinen the choir has aimed constantly more and more artistically ambitious performances combining old and new music with fresh and intriguing approach. WiOL has performed in Estonia, Latvia, Belgium, The Netherlands, Hungary, Croatia and Russia. Alongside Plain Fade (!) their collaborators include names such as Kaija Saariaho, Erkki Salmenhaara and recently Perttu Haapanen, Jussi Chydenius and Minna Leinonen. WiOL has several recordings including Hugo Distler's Choralpassion and 2010-release "Äänen ääret" (Rahmaninov, Guðmundsson, Haapanen, Leinonen etc.)
